Ok, so here is my situation. I am looking for trucking companies that have their own CDL training and offer apprenticeship/OJT covered by the MGIB or the Post 9-11 GI Bill. Ive been researching and I can only seem to find companies that offer either or. I know that I could go to a CDL training school on my own and with the post 911 GI Bill and get placed with a company that offers the apprenticeship program, but I am in a tricky situation with my GI bill. I have been using Montgomery GI Bill already to get my Degree and i currently have 6 months of benefits left under that chapter. If I exhaust those 6 months, I will be eligible to receive 12 additional months of benefits under the post 911 GI bill chapter. So that's the route im looking into. If I switched over to the post 911 GI bill now, I would only have 6 months of benefits total. So its 6 months of benefits or 18 months of benefits. If I switched to the post 911 gi bill now that would cover the tuition of the CDL training school ($5995) and would give me approximately 3 months of benefits for OJT. That why I am looking for any trucking companies out there that offer both the CDL training and the On The Job training program. Any help would be much appreciated. Sorry for the rambling.:biggrin_25511:

I personally would recommend Central Refrigerated. They have their own schooling and will pay for everything so that you don't have to spend any money up front. They also pay for transportation and housing during your training. Some meals too. You will have to call a recruiter and ask about the finer details, like the GI Bill. I am not familiar with any of that. You will have to sign a contract though, which really isn't that big a deal. Personally I would rather be on the hook with a trucking company than a bank or financial institution or worse yet the government! The biggest perk is that provided you pass the test at the end of your training you are guaranteed a job!

Central has some of the best equipment in the industry and top notch terminals. Their pay is on the average side but they do have many bonuses in which are easily obtainable and can really boost your pay. The number one reason I recommend Central is that on many occasions they have went above and beyond to help us with whatever problems we had. In one instance getting us a very large settlement from a truck manufacturer.

This is just my personal recommendation and mainly because I have driven for them, had a good experience and made very good money with them. However there are many other companies out there similar to them. I would highly recommend you make a list of your wants and needs and do your research. Find a company that is going to best suit your personal needs. Once you have narrowed your choices down to a couple dozen or so then start calling and talking to their recruiters to get the finer details. I would also recommend that you have a prepared list of questions for them too.

    Good luck man...

Thank you for your reply, I was looking at Central as my number one choice, but after talking with them found out that they do not do the Apprenticeship/OJT program that is covered by the GI bill. Sure in the the long run its not a big deal, but as it would be my first year driving that program would give me like $1100 a month for the first 6 months and $860 a month for the second six months, which would be a big help my first year while im learning the ropes.

Well like I said, this is just my personal recommendation. Out of all the starter companies they fair pretty well. Also they aren't quite a mega-carrier so you will be treated more like a human than a number. This could be pretty important when dealing with dispatch.

Like I also said too though, there are many companies out there to choose from, you just have to find the one that is going to best suit your individual needs.

If you have any questions at all feel free to "pm" me I will be happy to help you out however I can...

Finance the school, then sign on with a carrier that does tuition reimbursement, then use your remaining benefits with their apprenticeship/OJT.
