Plenty of time! Even time for a quick meal in there!

Whenever I had to drive at night, I would chew gum it keeps my mouth moving so I would not yawn that always helped.

They were an hour late getting me out the door, I had to scale twice. Got me some Wendy's, skipped my fuel and still made it on time! Made for a long day tho...

Yep sometimes you think you have all the time in the world and then it turns out it is just eatin up by stupid stuff like getting out late (look at Tyson loads), or even scaling. I always say don't count your chickens until you are in the front door.

I agree. You have to make it lifestyle and not think about how many days until you can go home. That's why I didn't last years ago, I kept counting the days until home time and got in too much of a hurry. I got frustrated and mad because I had delivery times and didn't want to miss em. Traffic jams, CB radio trash talk, drivers not taking care of trailer flat tires - just leaving it for the next guy. Worrying about not getting enough miles, etc.

Now I know that I need to slow down and enjoy life on the road and DON'T RUSH because it's a hurry up and wait game.

I leave on Sat Sept 1 for my training with Roehl. I have my CDL already and hope I made the right choice with them. I have only read a few negative things about them and they are at least 4 years old. Their pay for a noob is decent, they have great training and safety reputation. They also have a HomeTime fleet that I will be joining, 7 days out 3-4 days home rotating. I have a 7yr and 5yr old daughters who I am really close with. My wife and I both know the first year will be hard and plan to make the best of it. We plan on talking at least once a day and using skype for video chats so we still feel as connected as possible amd so my kids can see me and know I am thinking about them. I plan "chronicle my adventures" for other noobs and hope my experiences can help others begin their journey into this industry.

Out of curiosity, what is "decent" pay for a noob? I have no idea. I started at 25 CPM with swift, bottom of the bottom... Of the barrel. Lol
