I was headed home in a BAD rain storm with a lot of lightning hitting close by, and I did'nt notice at the time, but when I went to leave out a few days later my radio will power up,all the lights work, but there is no sound,AMP meter is working fine.Did I do something wrong by not turning my radio off during the storm?:biggrin_25512:

Watch a few utube vids of lightning. You will see it is most common dozens of little arcs come off a nearby main strike smacking all kinds of things around it. It is common one of these will touch your antenna and if it was a very small weak streamer you may not notice anything but the radio will be hurt. Does not matter if you turn the radio off, as long as the coax is hooked to the radio damage is done. You will need a shop which actually is good at diagnosis and repair as opposed to the norm of them being good at telling you it is junk when it likely was an easy fix for a true technician. Which means do not fall for the typical next line 'I'll give you 5 bucks for it off the price of another one'. I would say get a 2nd opinion before you ever part with a broken CB, but out there in CB Land you need 9 or 10 to find one who really is a technician as well as being honest and fair. Yes it is that bad out there take my word for it. Or not.

It's probably worth a few quick checks to make sure it's not something simple and coincidental, especially if it had been awhile before the storm since you'd used the radio last. We didn't see what make & model radio you've got, so some of these suggestions for checks are kinda vague.
Like, if there's a PA/CB switch, has it gotten nudged into the PA position? When you key the mic, does the TX light come on, and when you talk into the mic, does the meter (or MOD light, or whatever) show that you've got modulation? If you've got an outboard speaker or PA horn, or even a mono earphone, can you hear anything from your radio when you plug it in to the "Ext Spkr" jack on the back of the radio? Have you got someone with another CB that you can have closeby (like in your driveway, or a base with an open window they can talk through to you) to see if they can hear you?
And remember that most CBs made in the last umpteen years need the microphone plugged in for the receiver to send sound to the speaker.
You mentioned AMP meter..... do you mean a meter on an external CB amplifier, or the ammeter on the car's dash, or ??? If you meant a meter on a CB amplifier, take the amp out of the circuit, run the antenna straight to the CB radio, and test it then, in case the amp's relay got fried by lightning or an antenna failure or improper tuning or any of the host of other bad things that can take an amp to the netherworld.
These tests may not find the problem, but at least they're free, and you can try them in your own driveway.
    Hope this helps.

I have a Cobra 29. My Tx light comes on when I key the mic.I have modulation when I talk.No sound from Ext. Spkr. I get nothing when someone keys up close to me. It's like "the power comes on but no ones home". I can get it to a CB shop but I'll have to wait until I have some down time when I'm on the road. Thanks Handlebar.
