Hello, I am considering driving but I'm not sure which is the better way to go, tanker or van/trailer. I heard tankers get paid more money but it's more dangerous. Anyone have any experience in these welcome your comments.

    Thanks.

You make more with tanker because you sit less waiting to load and unload. It really isn't that dangerous if you use your head . All types of drivers die because of others being at fault . The danger is no reason to avoid tanker .

Ehhh... If you are new I would go with a van.. less likely to slosh and lay you over.. but like rickg said if you use your head you will be ok... Whichever way you go remember to take your dang time there is not 1 load I have ever hauled that is worth a body bag.

With what I have seen tanker loads are better able to run on an appointment basis with time allowed in runs for minor delays . I haven't heard of tank drivers being pushed to violate HOS. Tanker wrecks are expensive to clean up and the safety record is a priority with shippers.

get some experience first. then you wouldn't have to ask. you"d already know:biggrin_25519:

and you're probbably not gonna find a tanker job for being a rookie trucker. they usually want 3 years driving. and most places won't even hire you unless you've had 2 years tanker driving.

PRIME and Schneider will train on tank but the pay is low and previous tank experience is no more beneficial than any other OTR experience when applying to a tank carrier . QC will hire with 1 year OTR .

It all depends on what type of tanker you're looking at. Just saying tanker is really generic since there's all kinds of requirements that come with different types of tankers.

Ok, thanks for the reply. Your right about expensive tanker wreck clean ups, a few weeks ago a tanker over turned and had a messy hazmat spill. The freeway was closed for hours.
