in florida if your running local (100-200) miles intrastate you don't follow the HOS rules.

i never seen a dump trucker with a log bog and they stop those guys a lot due to tires and stuff..

If a company works strictly intrastate Federal wage laws don't apply to anyone . I worked for a trailer repair shop in GA that worked mechanics 55 - 60 hours a week straight time .
Actually , they could have been busted if the Department Of Labor knew a customer had our trucks go to AL to pick up products to be painted in our shop and delivered in GA . The evidence was there because they had to get AL permits for each trip .

    it's the new economy.

God $10 is so ######, teenage warehouse workers get that now. Hell back in '04 when I was 19 I was making $11.50 an hour to work in a warehouse. How the hell can they pay a professional driver so little?

There are SO many people who have gotten laid off that think trucking is their only hope in life since "drivers are in high demand!" , the huge influx of wanna be drivers into the industry, willing to work for sub-par wages are what cause companies to be very selfish with their pay. We can only hope the economy gets back to where it was in the early 2000's, but I doubt it, since we will probably have our current president for another 4 years.

I hear you man, I work for a smaller company that has 18 drivers at our terminal, 600 drivers nationwide, and we get $12/hour detention, $16/hour for yard work, and if you average our load pay into how long it takes to do a local load, its around $20 an hour. That's what we should ALL be making - MINIMUM!
