Had a power steering hose go out on me. 3/4" 2 ft long. called service truck to come 3 miles & put one on. $325.00$75.00 service call, $85.00 an hour,w/ 2 hour min, plus parts. $245.00 just for the labor & s/c. I am just mad at myself for not figuring out a way to fix it myself, which I could have, after I got some info from service guy. :disgust:

Do you guys still use the hoses with the re-usable fittings. I.e not crimped. A lot of American trucks over here use the re-usable fittings.
-
here where im at the hoses to make are cheap, but then again thats not in the middle of the road of course.
-
I'd pull the old hose off, get on the internet and find the nearest place that makes hoses or sells Parker hose for my re-usable fittings and call a cab to take me there and pick up some trans fluid to refill reservoir.
Or use armstrong steering to get to the closest shop and buy a hose there. -
napa will make a hose for you, replaced mine for $108.00 and an hour or less time
-
I think my arm is not strong enough to do it.

Well what got me was, I pulled up to fuel & took a look at the engine, cause I smelled something just before the exit, but was not sure if it anything to do with my truck. I saw fluid everywhere. pulled off to an empty area & went inside asked the 2 women working there if there was any parts stores nearby. they said no, but they had a list of service folks that work on big trucks. I called & they came out. they did the job, I paid the money. Idid find out after the fact, that there was a napa dealer just 3 miles down the road. I thought if I had internet access, I think I would of been able to find that out. I would of taken hose off & when the parts guy came, would have him take my hose & return with a new hose & fluid & would of paid the cost. I was pressed for time & needed it done a.s.a.p. there are no cabs in jemison AL. one of the women, when I mentioned said, oh well yeah I know where napa is. I said I asked why didn't you tell me, she said well they do not service big trucks. but I said they do make hydraulic hoses. she thought they would have nothing that could help a trucker , so she did not mention them. lesson learned. 1st time in 12 years, I had to have anything done to truck on the road, except for tire repair. but at least it was in the morning 9 a.m. I was at a truck stop, sort of. plenty of parking. e.t.c. & it was not a big break down. today .I bought a smartphone, so I can be a little more prepared if anything like this happens again.

Hmm, 2 hour minimum? Well, how much time did you have left in that 2 hours? I'd have put him to work.

Next time you call for road service, or anything really, all you need to do is ask for the pricing. If you don't like it you don't take it, then there is nothing to complain about!!!
rrw811 Thanks this. -
I just wanted to get the heck out of there.
