Thank you Polarbear, i have submitted applications to both and both look very promising so far and i am moving back to NY now that i am done with my cdl school. What would you suggest as far as where to start as a new commercial driver. i have all my driving experience in NY and up and down the east coast. With that being said i am starting out in my career during the winter and i have the option to stay in OK or NY. The snow does not intimidate me and i feel i am an experienced driver enough to know when to or not to push the drive during winter weather. At the same time i know i dont know jack when it comes to driving a rig, especially in the winter, due to my lack of experience. so to my, question where would you suggest starting out?

Its up to you keep in mind if ur too far north in NY tmc wont accept you. Dont know why but thats what they say. So if you want to be with tmc you need to talk to them. Pgt will hire out of the deep ne but no shiny Pete
they are both good in my book, tmc maybe a little more strict. In my opinion its a wash.

I have been on the phone with TMC and PGT and i am within both companies hiring areas.
everyone loves those shiny petes and i would love to have one but what is important to me that the companies take good care of their equipment and their drivers. I have heard tmc is very particular and set in their ways, but i am prior military i can deal with that to an extent. I appreciate you taking the time to give me some guidance.

TMC, with them it's got one rip or nick in it it's a safety hazard. They seem to take VERY good care of there stuff. Not sure on PGT, some of their trucks look like that tarp has been used for YEARS.
If I could get my beerbelly between the seats on a pete, I'd sign onto to TMC faster than you shift gears on a Fuller.CAXPT Thanks this. -
Haha they hire some big boys. Dont think it be a problem. With dot being the way it is every carrier with any kind of repute takes care of their equipment. Pgc is getting alot of new trucks too. Alot of the new guys are getting brand new trucks.

I know those Pete's can be tempting amd I dont want you to think im discounting tmc they are a good company but id seriously consider pgt over them, here's why:
More personable, they seriously want you to succeed and look at you as part of the family.
If you need help in any way, financially, hometime, ect.
If they see you are struggling, they will offer to bring you back in for e xtra training. This is important, tmc would just cut ties with you, there will be someone in next week to take your spot. Pgt looks at it as an investment, if ur not succeeding they arent. Trust me the ones that go to orientation that wont work never finish the week out. We started with 16 guys in my class, by the end of the week there was 5 left And 2 of us were o/o.OK_Boot Thanks this. -
Oh And any time ok boot.

As you'll see from these CSA scores below, TMC vehicles are better maintained then PGT.
Believe the black and white figures contrast on these scores before you choose. TMC has more trucks than PGT does, but their scores are lower especially on the Vehicle Maintenance, which as a company driver, should be the category that you are the most concerned about. The rest you can directly control, maintenance is what the company is supposed to take care of when you the driver finds it. If they don't fix it/inspect properly, then you get to wear the ticket and the first place a lot of companies do cut costs is in maintenance so.... choose....wisely (Old Knight in Last Crusade voice)

I have never worked for PGT, but had a good run with TMC, doing Northeast nearly exclusively, with occasional forays south and west. Their maintenance is top notch, their standards are (or were) rather high, and they expect yours to be also. If I go flatbedding again it'll be with TMC. The only thing I didn't care for is that only a select few trucks had APU's (ex TDT Kenworths mostly, now usually seen on Closetmaid dedicated). I was on percentage, and if I could deliver 4-6 loads a week I was good (keep in mind, northeast, short load distances and occasionally multistop/LTL).
CAXPT Thanks this.
