How, if at all, are you able to use a CB while sharing trucks as in a slip seat situation? Thanks

You see a lot of ltl drivers who have boxes with their CB and an AM/FM built in and on rollers. They just plug into cigar lighter and have the antenna on a vise grip mount. Quick and easy.

That sounds like a good idea. Once you set the SWR, would it stay the same each time you clamped on with the vise grips though?

I slip seat all the time. Sometimes the drivers leave their radios in, sometimes not. If it is a different truck every time, I check the SWR. Even the same year model can give you different SWR reading. This doesn't usually happen, but it does every now and then. It is not hard to put in a radio. You only have a hot and a ground wire for the radio. Get a quick disconnect mount for the antenna and you can throw one in the truck in just a few minutes. I use this one. mount.jpg

I use a handheld radio. I only have to talk to the scalehouse and loading personel. It gets me by.

I thought about the handheld radio. Sort of decided against it due to the range. I think I'll look into the slip seat boxes. Thanks

I made a slipseat box out of 1/4 inch plywood and 1 inch square wood braces for about $20 and 2 hours time. It holds a Cobra 29, and a Kenwood am/fm cd player along with 2 7"x 9" oval speakers, and an external cb speaker. I put a piece of plexiglass on top so I could suction cup my phone stand and my GPS mount. Works really good. I have a vice grip double mount antenna for the airline bracket. This is my backup box now that I have an assigned tractor.
