I'm considering CRST too but i already have my CDL.
I was referred to CRST by a driver already, and it sounds like a decent deal. I see a lot of people talking badly about them on here, but honestly for us guys trying to get started they are all the same, no mega carriers apparently are good for us graduates.

Give em' a year or so and jump into a local deal.

Try Watkins Shepard. They are a pretty good starter company, and after you go thru their 10 day orientation, you get into your own truck, with no trainer. They have a terminal in the Seattle area and in Spokane...

all you have to do is check and see if a community college near you has driving school classes. i did, and i was able to apply for a state grant that paid for over half of the school. if you count the money i paid at the dmv with the portion that i had to pay, i have a little more than 600 dollars tied up in my CDL. i went to a PTDI certified school that had over 250 hours of instruction.

NEVER and i mean NEVER sign on to be trained by a company. like the others have said, you will be screwed. swift used to talk high and mighty about schooling the ones who could not afford it, only to break it back off in the students by taking 70% of the paycheck and making them run for 22 cents a mile till god knew when.

My Nieces husband went to CRST for his CDL....He hardly ever got to go home, and he never made any money either....He finally couldn't take it anymore and quit...They threatened him big time,,,enough that he went back to work for them and finished paying for his schooling...He's with another carrier now for the last 9 months and doing okay....But he said that CRST was pure Hell....CRST=CURSED

please get your cdl before going with a carrier, i had to do a refresher and did it at crst i didnt have to sign a contract, but the people that do go through the 2 week school are NOT prepared. they may be able to double clutch but thats all. i went through roadmaster in florida. most students out of crst training dont know the HOS rules (hours of service) . please go get your cdl before signing on with a carrier any. if you do still decide to come here you will need to study alot on your own. and get your permit before you come too or you will sit for a week before you can start actual school.

You're splitting hairs. You know just like anybody else that you're not going to get one without the other. You asked for advice. People advised you to look elsewhere and then gave you their (in some cases First hand) opinion as a reason why. You effectively stated that you didn't care to hear what people had to say about CRST. Fine...it's your life, so go have fun. In the future, however, don't ask for advice and then plug your ears and yell "la-la-la" when people give it to you.

    Have fun.

I as well start my class beginning September 10'th, but I am going to United truck driving school. It's 180 hours, and they have various recruiters that are at the school throughout our schooling. At the end you choose who you go work for. Swift, PAM, Averitt, Werner, Star, covenant, Falcon, US Express, McElroy are most of the options we have to choose from. Out of the listed companies, which ones are the best?
