Paycheck, you're absolutely right. They pay some guys big bucks up there in Greenbay just to tell them the best time to get rid of their trucks. But, for what it's worth, I ran into a guy, when I was leased to them, that bought one back when you could L/P the old orange trucks. He paid off the truck, had something like 1.6 million miles on it, and never did anything to it except tires and brakes and such. He was saying his accountant was telling him he really needed to spend some money on his truck. Maybe he's the exception and not the rule.

Ya it happens, the Detroit 60 is a good platform. I've got a buddy that managed to buy the truck that he was in as a company driver, he new how it was treated and he's not had a problem yet. Oh and it was an automatic.
Generally speaking I think it's the exception and not the rule, but at 22k you've got to expect some repairs in the near future. -
I know we sent some good trucks up from Victoria to be sold in Dallas. You will need to get the front tires balanced and clean the oil slick off the seats but otherwise should be good to go.

I think that kinda high.... i bought a 2006 international with 450k mi, for 23k and that was in 2010. (Ultrashift) I know its a diffrent brand, but thats to high for that truck.. More like 18,500 to me...

Everything is negotiable but 2010 prices are a world away from 2012. I saw the same ex-punkin trucks posted at $16K or less back in 2009.

I wanted to buy direct from Schneider. They wouldn't let me take a truck off their property for a dyno run, I said no thanks. I do think they have great specs on their trucks, the ones I've looked at appeared well maintained and I think they can clean up nicely.

The only way I would consider an ex-fleet truck is if it had an auto. I would think there would be alot less driver abuse worries with an auto.

schneider is a private co. they dont operate like most big companies who replace all their trucks at a set mileage or age. they keep very good records of what each truck.costs. they will keep good trucks well over a million miles or the will dump a lemon with 200k. for that reason i wouldnt buy a used sni truck unless it is near a million miles since thats when they start phasing them out regardless. if you see a low mileage sni truck for sale run away

You cannot afford a major repair before your 1st settlement? but after your 1st settlement you could ?

I say lots of folks have made it in trucking on a shoestring budget. nothing wrong with trying. 1 good month could get you going providing you have good paying freight, lots of miles & no major break downs, which nobody can predict. I think your looking in the right direction for new start up o/o
