We ran e-logs when leased with another company and I gotta admit, I really liked them. My wife and I run team so it wasn't ever a issue of running out of hours or being stuck somewhere.
I don't think I would want them as a solo driver though.
We aleady run qualcomm cause we are AA&E haulers but to add e-logs here would add another cost of around $25 per week to what we are already paying for our qualcomm. If Landstar was real interested in getting us to go e-log, then they should offer the services at no additional cost to us, after all, they pay for the paper log books.

I have a loose leaf log book, run permit loads across the country and never spend any time in the box. I even have inspections from California saying my logs are top notch, nice try but no cigar for you.

I ran LL for a bit and had no hassles but some buddies I know have had alot of hassles from the fuzz. just saying though, its the new evolution of trucking to come. I have had my own fair share of miscalculations on my logs over the years especially when Im runnin hot and elogs just eliminates that room for error.

the only benefit I see to a EOBR is to fight a speeding ticket from a speed camera that's malfunctioning.

And Qualcomm and stated that they won't stand behind or support a statement that their system is designed, built or capable of doing that.

But they will support that it's accurate enough to get you a speeding ticket during an audit.

EOBR's are flat and simple big brother! I understand that a person can get used to them, and that not really a big deal after while. As with all things with our government in time a person sitting in a office some where will audit you. Then they will send you a ticket in the mail for speeding on " I-75 in Ohio for 68 mph in a 65mph zone. Yes, I understand that is an extreme sitituation. But with a tracking device in your truck they will now everthing that truck is doing.
I know this because i worked as a company driver that has People Net. They showed me where the truck was for 45 minutes when doing a heavy haul laod. Time, speed, location. In three minute incraments. To make sure drivers were following permit routes.

    Autocar,
There is no problem if you are alright with an over bearing Government. EOBR's will not make unsafe drivers safer. It will make it easier for unsafe drivers to be caught.(not real problem with that) This is my truck and the Government can not under our constitution make me have a EOBR. If private carriers want them that is there business. If Ls mandates them I have a choice to live with it or leave. I will stand on work and safety record any day of the week. It is getting frustrating that our Government is using the "lowest common denominator" to pass regulations.

The Government has always used the "lowest common demoninator", when passing regulations. Laws are passed to protect those of us with common sense, from those without common sense. You see these people everyday and wonder why they haven't succeeded in killing themselves yet.
