Supposed to yield to traffic on your right...

And the accident in the original post, I didn't even hear about until I was listening to Road Dawg on XM on my way home from orientation at Hill Bros in Omaha. And I want to get back in to trucking, especially in Nebraska right now? I found it odd that none of the Nebraska news outlets were reporting about the accident out west but XM was all a buzz about it.

maybe its just me...but if i am in an area that i KNEW that didnt have stop signs...even if the other person is sup. to yield, i would still exercise caution....i would slow almost to a stop until i was sure the way was clear...but thats neither here, nor there...so sorry this happened...

He actually killed a family of five. The woman was seven months pregnant.

Don't know if this article was posted yet, but it goes into detail about the driver and the company, AKI Trucking out of Romeoville, IL. What's being reported is what we all know about these Chicagoland companies. Most fly by night situations, hiring non English speaking immigrants to drive Volvo tractors at high speeds without sleep. Every one of these companies are the same. Every. Single. One. And they know they all have bad records, that's why they change names constantly. A lot of these people aren't trained, don't bother with even pretending to follow HOS regs, and drive bad equipment on our highways.

A cb wouldn't have helped this guy. He either was asleep or just not paying attention. Typical Chicagoland foreign drivers.

Can someone explain to me how, with warning buzzers, lights and gauges, one can rapidly lose enough air to prevent you from getting off the road before the maxis lock up? Even properly adjusted spring brakes can be overpowered in low gear to get a truck moving. Did any article mention why the first breakdown couldn't get off the highway?

As for the CB, it has become rather useless due to the lack of courtesy and radio discipline prevalent today. Childish taunts, life stories, linears 'stepping' on everyone... it's become as useful as one of those telephone chatlines. I myself don't use it much anymore, and can understand why others keep it off.

Now that is a very good question.....What does DOT have to say about that. I have been at shippers where there were drivers that didn't have a clue on what was being said, I just have to ask how that could happen.

No it's not just you. I live in SE NE and it's common sense on the gravel roads up here that you slow down for ALL intersections stop signed or not. Can't count the number of times I've been in my pickup on backroads in this state when idiots have ran stop signs. Then again I can't understand why the truck drivers dad left his son 9 miles behind him. I personally don't feel the accidnet would've happened if the two were together. According to what I heard the other day though it was the bus drivers fault but it's still under investigation. But I agree sorry this had to happen gotta keep everybody in our prayers.
