You do a driving test after you get done with your trainer its called a upgrade test. If you fail it no job. I woulnt worry too much about the tats. Just try to keep it covered up.

The only driving test before is the one you would take for your license. The one after is for your upgrade... Basically can you shift and back up a trailer (remember if at no other time, to make sure you get out and look for that one)... It might be a Morman based company, but they are also in business. If you look presentable, you should have no problems... However if you have a swatzica tattooed on your forehead, you might have a problem

P.S... I have a feeling most of the drivers (including myself and my husband) aren't Mormons... -
Hey guys... wanted to jump in your thread. While I'll admit I haven't read all 145 pages of this thread I wanted to ask a question that may or may not have already been asked.
I reside on the east coast, just north of the North Carolina border and only a few miles east of I-95 in Virginia (only about 60 miles from Va Beach and the Atlantic Ocean). One of the interesting things to me about Central is they're a western company and yet they are interested in me. My question is, as an easterner what states or lanes would I likely operate in? While after gaining experience I could see trying to hire on with a regional or local company (or even going O/O), if the industry is going to require a newbie to run OTR, at least I'd like to have the opportunity to see parts of the country that I never have. The other thing is, who wants to get stuck running the dreaded NE corridor week in, week out?
Thanks for any insights! -
Moose, check your training book. The $240 is taken at $40 a week until you reach $240. It is one of the questions in the students book.

There have been weeks where I was in the west coast, months where I was on the east and up around the great lakes, and a week or two where I just kept running Louisiana and Texas. Haven't made it to Oregon yet, but I'm sure it'll happen sooner or later...
Theres a terminal South of you in Georgia, so they're interested in people all over. I live in AR which isn't really close to anything but in the middle of everything so no problems gettin home when I ask for it.Nottoway Thanks this. -

Hey AR Frost, thanks for the feedback. Wow, they really get ya'll around. I find that fascinating. Now you've got my attention.
I have gotten a good number of preHires and was beginning to look closely at Epes and Roehl. By the time you're working on that first year under your belt, Epes pays $.35 plus a $.07 bonus for running in the NE above DC...and they evidently run up there quite a bit. Not bad for dry van.
But back to Central, how you liking it? How's the mileage and pay? Any other advise?
Thanks! -
You won't get that from central they start at 28 cents a mile and no bonus other then 10 dollars for an ontime delivery. Central use to be 30 cents a mile bout 2 years ago if I were you I'd stick with some of the east coast companies they pay better. Good luck.Nottoway Thanks this.

Thanks for the honesty 6pak. Just for another comparison, Roehl's website posts their pay rates. They start (w/ no experience) at $.30 and @ the one year mark are up to $.36. (If a driver had 3 years recent experience, they'd start @ $.38
They say they try to get their drivers between 2300-2600 miles. They also calculate miles by PracticalMileagePay (PMP) compared to the short route (HHG). That is supposed to be as much as 5% more paid miles.
Don't know ... struggling with making my decision on who to start with. Have preHires from Central, Epes and Roehl, (along with Werner, Schneider, Swift and Western Express).
At any rate, thanks for your 2 cents worth! -
The way Central calculates there miles are a joke zip to zip I can't tell you how many free miles I gave away. The problem is not in the trip itself wel it is but more in there excess miles fund anything over 2700 cost a L/O money. They say you can use it towards the bying of the truck when I left due to a back problem and medication they got $ 7,000.00 out of me. Central will find a way to rip you off if they can. I did great with them both miles and money but when it came to understanding they have none I even took a drug test for them came up negative all in all I lost $ 11,000.00. My lease was almost up 3 months talked to them about bying the truck guess the truck meant more to them then me. Swift and Werner aren't the best either but you need to start somewhere best of luck with whomever you choose.Nottoway Thanks this.
