So the owner i work for acquired an ex-werner pete 387 c-15 accert 435hp 13spd etc.. with 3yr guarantee on the engine and stuff. Point is the truck is governed at 64 and since im going to be on that truck i asked if its fine if i turn off the governor and he agreed. My concern is if by doing so the engines guarantee could be void and for what reason. Any help is appreciated.

Find out what the guarantee from Werner is. My guess, having a higher speed rating will not affect the warranty.
-
My truck's top speed on odometer is 100mph,, but I try to stay around 65 for fuel @ 6.8 mpg, also all these super truckers that want to fly down the road @ 75+ , just take into account this " your steer tires are only rated at 70 mph" ( steer tire failure waiting to happen). So a little slower I may be at times,, but I will save on fuel expense and have more of a chance of getting my load delivered and home SAFELY to my family.

Are you talking factory warranty or aftermarket warranty? Changing the top speed or cruise and jake settings will NOT effect the warranty as long as its done @ a factory sponsored shop. Changing horsepower/torque is the only thing that effects warranty on a factory warranty, and if your willing to pay for the extra warranty you can change the HP/torque a little also.

Yep, vehicle speed shouldn't matter, that engine will be rated for 1800 or 2100 rpm. If you change that I can see the warranty being voided.

Thank you everyone for your opinions i really appreciate your help. The guarantee in fact is a 3yr factory guarantee and turning of the governor would only be done at the dealership due to bad past experiences at the local shops. The only reason i would turn off the governor is just in case i would need to speed things up. I am not too impressed with the fuel millage so speeding wont be the reason to turn it off in fact i share Mr. Keepntruckin's thought. Now i have another question if you guys don't mind... does anyone know what the toggle switch with a red indicator is for??.. I've played with it but doesn't seem to do anything. Once again Thank you all for your insight and help.

it is a msg light for q-comm, something werner had from years ago and never updated. it should be inop now with their q-comm out of the truck.
irvin175 Thanks this. -
The only help I can give you on MPGs is low RPM I never go over 1600 on mine I average 6.8. Your best bang for your buck (the more bucks the bigger the bang) is contact Mr. Haney on this forum he will hook you right up.Mine has over 1 million on it and when I rebuild this spring I'm going to go the Haney route never heard anyone complain about him he does top shelf work.
-
Yea i average 6.23mpg and my rpm range is 1600 on mine as well. I've heard nothing but good things about Mr. Haney so ill follow you all's advice. Now guys i have a concern, since the truck was bought off a Peterbilt dealer and still governed at Werener's speed, what are my chances of the engine having a password to turn off that governor. Also I've noticed that all though my speedometer says i run 64 tops, I've compared this truck to other drivers' trucks and they have all mentioned i'm running at 60
... Any ideas why of this situation??

I'd be more concerned about it being castrated on the power than the speed.
