I'm very optomistic. I've spoken to several potential employers and it sounds very promising. I won't be officially looking for work until I take my last course late next week in Edmonton. [GODI]

The owner of a smalll mom&pop trucking outfit related a few horror stories regarding some of the people they are forced to hire or leave trucks idle. The last guy they fired stole their company fuel card and racked up a $3000 bill. Their idea of the ideal employee is a guy or gal who not only has the skills but is responsible, shows up to work on time [sober] and treats his equipment well.

Thats all he asks. Sounds fair and reasonable to me.
Good luck to you too rainyday lover.

    Hello,

I'm a new AZ (Class 1) driver from Ontario also looking to get out in the oil patch for employment. One question I have is in regards to all the required safety tickets that are requested. Is there a place on-line where you can obtain all these or do they have to be in-class somewhere as I don't see them offered anywhere near where I live right now.

    Thanks in advance.

    MachZ, welcome to the board.

I took most of my courses through St.John ambulance but there are many companies that offer courses applicable to the oil patch. First of all go online and look at job listings to determine what courses you need. Then do a search for the area you are in and you will find companies. some courses are offered online while others require attendance.

    My courses:

    -WHMIS
    -H2S Alive
    -GODI
    -TDG
    -PST
    -CSTS
-1st aid level 1 with CPR
    -bear aware

I saw an ad for rock truck drivers a while back in Kitimat for the Kemano completion project. [Rio Tinto]

    Just do a Google search............

Thank you Westcoastsailor for the information. I will check out the tickets required and St.John as well for what they offer. I notice most of the jobs posted differ on what they request but what you posted above seems to pretty much cover it all.

    Thanks again.
