The title says it all. I'm tired of swinging doors all the time, and would like to get into flatbed. So, are there any recommendations as to what companies would be good for securement training? Yes, I know there are plenty of posts on here for the various companies, but I'm looking for a second opinion on what's out there right now.
looking for a change

I'm not a flat bed driver but some rules apply to all trucking. I see your out of the circle so number (1) try to stay local. (2) Try to find a company with a terminal within your area or a drop yard with a functional local to deliver loads. (3) Work out from your location to the shortest distance. Do not travel somewhere at a distance you aren't willing to travel both ways in your personal car. Companies will lie their arse off to fill a seat.

I wouldn't worry as much about the securement training as I would about finding a good company. Start looking around at truck stops how guys have their loads tied down. If youre polite to shippers and ask most will help you out on how to tie their product down.
Its mostly common sense. -
If u are tired of swinging doors,u will be tired of tarping and securing flatbed loads???
bigjoel Thanks this. -
seems we're seeing this alot, drivers see some cool stuff on and open deck but it is alot of work and tarping in 100 degrees or sub 0 temp's
with that said if you still want to get into flat bed
SECUREMENT is very important, and DOT looks at you closer with a open deck than a box
TMC, Systems, Maverick are all known for their training with emphasis on securement
once you have a year open deck you can go with about any company and grow from their but get the basics down firstAZS, bigbadmrz, The Challenger and 1 other person Thank this. -
I was just gonna say TMC...

are you going to be happy chucking 100 pound tarps in summer heat or winter cold.
most loads are tarped.
how about when you get to your destination and your trailer is all iced up from the snow you just drove through. tarps, straps, ratchets, and everything else.
and then you got them A hole loads that just won't stay put and your on a 2000 mile journey fighting your load the WHOLE ENTIRE TRIP. even worse. your drive through oklahoma city. and now your load is rubbing your cab and hanging 10 feet off the rear of trailer.
OR
you have to slam on your breaks in rush hour traffic of whatever reason. and now your load is sitting in YOUR seat.
i can send your a pic of dents in my truck from a rebar load that slid into the cab when a double belly dump truck decided to cut me off so he could exit the freeway. if i hadn't stopped at the rest area 10 miles back to check my securement. i probably wouldn't be typing this comment. The Challenger Thanks this. -
