Does anyone run exclusively on LTL Loads. The reason I ask is because I never had any experiences with them up until last week when one of my guys was stuck in Orlando, FL and there was nothing worth hauling and he did not want to deadhead to GA. I decided to take an LTL going to NY which paid about $900 for three pallets and then got a few more and actually had no issues loading/unloading and even the appointment times were spot on....he ended up in NY with over $2500 in three days. I'm wondering, did I get lucky or is there a good market for LTL loads??? BTW, these were dry loads.

LTL can be nice way to make money rather than taking what they call a backhaul load. Sometimes if I know I'm headed to a low rate area I try to put 2-4 together to return to my region. This is easier in some areas and more difficult in others. There are many companies that base their business on LTL but to be a complete LTL carrier you'd need centralized warehouse locations/cross docks and lots of contacts.. especially shipper direct. You can't have a broker cutting into an already low rate, right?

Things to keep in mind are:
    Total miles for the trip
    Number of picks and drops
Ability to pick and deliver ASAP.
Any LTL that has an Appt at pu or del deserves a higher rate
    Total revenue
    ---
After all the headaches of it, the lost time picking, running, and delivering, has it paid better than a single load?

I run LTL as a main source of income and only touch a full load about once a month. But I also have a office staff that has the time and skill to put the loads together. It also helps that the company I am leased to specializes in LTL. I routinely get $2000+ LTL loads out of central PA back to Chicago when most guys are hauling full loads for $6-700.
