I will agree that per diem is a bit of a scam so all you will get is a lower scale of social security when you retire. There's pros and cons with any such scheme but I was with IRT for 8 yrs and I found them to be pretty good. Home time was OK but you have to stay out weeks in order to make any kind of $$$. I moved onto local fuel hauling and pay shot up. IRT equipment is excellent, but I know they were being governed at 70 when I left in 2006.
They had a good 401K plan and good health benefits. Things to be aware of when working for IRT is to insist on "live" Loading your trailer with milk.
DO NOT fall into the trap of picking up a pre loaded trailer!! I can guarantee it's over weight. I always "live" loaded..PERIOD. I wanted the control of what the trailer is going to weigh!! !! After all its your CDL you are messing with. IRT couldn't care less. The OJ/fruit juice loads were always legal when I picked them up, it's the milk you have to watch. They will try to run you hard but you have to resist the temptation.

well truck made it into the shop, was supposed to go in on Friday, but they couldn't find a loaner truck for me to use to go preload a trailer with, so i took mines. Didn't make it back to yard until after shop had closed. Dropped trailer, parked truck and went home.. went to go turn my fridge off a few hours ago, and there's grease on the fifth wheel and a new sticker on the sleeper. they also beat the dent out of my bumper.. Tuesday i'll check a few more things before i fuel and head back north.. Hopefully she still runs 73mph, i've been told that they're cutting all of the trucks back as they make it into the terminal. Hope it's just one of those things that's just been getting passed along and not true.

I thought they did the same to me.. truck came out of shop after service and was running 65mph, around 2,000mi or maybe 2,500 it went up to 68mph, now i'm at 5,000mi and it's running 73mph like it use to. MPG is 6.5 and idle is 2.3%

It jus came out of the shop for an "A" service and they reset the computer (which is why I had to earn my 73mph back). And since I've gotten it back I've been running from Florida to Canada and back, the weather up there is WONDERFUL! I dont need to idle to stay cool, and I have a sleeping bag for when it gets cold at night.

I'm thinking about IRT and what i was told they have OTR and regional out of Clovis Nm. What would be a better pick, i'm not worried about time out or where I go, but which is better for miles or are they about the same
