I have a 2006 Western Star with a detroit 14L and last weekend I took the tanks off of my truck to paint them and yesterday I put everything back together and it didn't start. I checked the fuel filter and it was still full. It's turning over and it has juice so it's not a battery issue. Anything ideas on what is wrong or things I can check?

You probably lost prime. Reprime the engine. I lost prime once, I ended up airing the truck up, having someone pull me and dropping it into gear while they pulled me to turn the fuel pump, then turn the key to run and it was working great. If you have a Davco 382, you can buy a barb fitting and pump fuel from the drain fitting thru the fuel lines back to the tank. Just buy some extra fuel hose, you can use a fuel can or stick the hose in your fuel tank and pull from there. Clearly, it appears you lost prime.

Detroit mechanic , told me you can use aero start on a rare occasion and will prime fuel system without causing damage. Spray into intake near head (have to remove plastic hose spray in aero start, put hose back on then turn key)

If you have to use ether to start, you're probably not primed up. I've seen knuckleheads that spray the crap out of the intake with ether to no avail. I helped a friend out once and told him he wasn't primed, but he insisted on spraying huge ammounts of ether every time we tried to start it to make it fire. After helping him prime the engine, it started right up. Prime it correctly, ether is not needed. You can also pull start the truck, pull the truck pop the clutch with the key OFF, let the fuel pump work and then turn key to run. Too easy.

Double check all connections and make sure you are not catching air somewhere.

Yeah it just took a little ether to get it started. Thanks for your help and don't worry I didn't start a fire

You can also modify a fuel cap with an tire air stem. Then use air to pressurize the tank and force fuel into the system. I have to do this with by Detroit S60 whenever I change fuel filters. I crack the fuel supply line near the injector pump, use air to fill the filters and force fuel up to the pump. Tighten the fitting. Then crank. Usually starts w/o ether. Have to be careful with ether if there is a cold start heating system on the intake.

I've never seen a Series 60 with a cold start system on the intake. Ether MAY cause damage, that's why I don't like or recommend its use. After owning a Davco Fuel Pro 382, I will never own a vehicle with out installing one of these on it. Get's rid of so many head aches and makes priming and trouble shooting so much easier.

I just took one off my 95 FLD, an old Swift truck. It had been disconnected but the ether bottle was still mounted on the frame.
