    I'd say so
I broke out the calculator for this one. To make $ 280,000.00 a year that would mean they would need to run 6,000 miles a week or 24,000 a month. After 11,000 miles Central charges 9 cents a mile they call it excess miles.
24,000 minus 11,000 = 13,000 times .09 equals 1,170 dollars given back to central 1,170 times 12 equals 14,040 dollars lost tru the lease program.
Next if they were to buy there own truck the payments would be at least 500.00 dollars a month less 500.00 times 12 equals 6,000.00 dollars given to central.
next the Qualcomm 23.00 dollars a week times 52 equals 1,196 dollars.
Next we all know central pays zip to zip miles not practical miles so each trip you drive you drive 50 to 100 miles you don't get paid for so let's say of the 24,000 per month you drive 600 miles are done for free. 600 times 12 equals 7,200 dollars lost lets add em up
    Excess miles 14,040.00
    truck payments. 6,000.00
    qualcom. 1,196.00
    unpaid miles. 7,200.00
total given back. 28,436,00 lost tru the lease program yes excess miles fund goes towards buying the truck but after 3 years and over 900,000 miles who wants it.
Of the 280,000.00 they made central got at least 2/3 of it so there take home was about 90,000.00 dollars remember they had to run 6,000 miles a week 52 weeks a year with no home time. With the amount of years he has driving is doesn't add up why work for central.
If they were to have bought there own truck even at 2.00 dollars a mile they could have cleared at least .90 cents a mile times 96,000 miles for the year they would have taken home 86,400 dollars a third the miles for the same amount of money. It can be done. Think twice before leasing a truck it could be the worst decision of your life.

i don't know about you guys, but chompi is sounding more and more like a recruiter. not a trucker.

the reality is. reefer companies running qualcom. equals low miles and pay.

another reailty is. we all gotta start somewhere.

Good conversation and thoughts and input. I'm not planning on leasing anytime soon...if at all. The team driving is something I 'would' do...pending on what my wife wants to do though she will come out on the road with me at times.

As for my immediate plans, and for any others that are thinking one way or another...as many have already stated, you've gotta start somewhere and my start will be with Central as a solo co driver. Once I gain more experience, then I'll look to see what my options are at that point. I know leasing works for some, not for others...trucking works for some, not for others...cubicle life works for some, not for others. For me, I'll continue to look to others for help, tips, advice and will look and evaluate all the good...and bad...that I'll get.

Yeah, Chompi mentioned about 4 days ago that he gets accused of being a Central recruiter but now he'll be accused of being one for his new gig, DTL in Florida. Snowwy, are you a current Central driver?

chompi sounded off as a trucker. but the last couple of months he's been sounding like a recruiter.

    i've never worked for central,

and i've vbeen reading this websight long enough to know that leasing works for almost NO ONE.not with central., not with england not swift. or even john christner. i've read ALL the threads.

ii think i've heard of one guy that actually made it. and apparently he had a bank account to pad the rough times. albeit probably not much left at the end.

there are others that come along all the time and preach to NOT LEASE. but no one ever listens.

WELL FOR ONE I CAN TELL YA'LL CHOMPI IS not A RECRUITER. HE JUST GAVE A LIL BAD ADVISE THIS TIME . HELL IT HAPPENS. BUT I CAN TELL ALL YOU NEWBIES AND WANNABES IF YOU ALREADY DONT HAVE A PILE OF MONEY IN THE BANK TO BACK YOU WHEN YOU LEASE A TRUCK YOUR LOOKING AT SOME REALLY HARD TIMES. AND THATS NOT JUST WITH CENTRAL ITS ANY CO THAT LIKES TO PUSH THE LEASE.

I will say AMEN to that... We are going through that phase right now... Sure the warrantee takes care of the repair, but the down time, the hotel, the tow bill is NOT covered!! Also companies love to lease - that way they are not on the hook for the things not covered... We listened to the cool aid... And leased... It made sense for us at the time, but we have been having mechanical issues with the truck and some serious time in the shop... We will make it... I'm determined!! However not easily...

Love the thread everyone! I start CDL school in Fontana on Oct. 8th. Any advice on the school that may not be mentioned by the recruiter or the info sheets? How about the econo-lodge, is there enough room in the fridge to buy food, or should I just plan on eating out? What happens during the 3- day orientation? All suggestions and advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
