Not to start an argument, but what do you have left from those Carretta years? Pay stubs, that's all. You think that maybe because they were paying more at the time then anyone else they finally couldn't afford it anymore? Or maybe it was the racketeering charges the Mob influenced company you worked for that finally put them out of business by the Feds? I do fondly remember the Carretta trucks on a first hand basis, they had about 5 of them sitting at my families produce dock in Hunts Point every Sunday night in the 70's and 80's while I was working for my dad overseeing the unloading of our produce from their trucks coming in from Yuma and California. Fond memories for sure, great drivers I would meet on Sunday nights, but like anything else, all good things come to an end.

Boy ain't that the truth.

Truckers are not that stupid. We even know insiders in the companies post stuff on here to try and scare us off. I work for a great company but if they were bad I would blast them. I do post things on here for a friend because his company is killing him mentally with the way they are treating him.My fellow Truck drivers don't let a little smurf scare you off.LOL
JohnBoy Thanks this. -

Hihihi...that Miami Heat logo looks like those ring lollipops. Maybe because they are suckers? Just wondering...

I know why they went under and believe me, I deeply regretted it. Yep, I still have the pay stubs and great memories from those times. It wasn't just racketeering that did Joe in, but also corrupt drivers - remember the one they caught in Charlotte on the scale with half the trailer full of weed, or the one that sold clothes he picked up in Joppa MD at Mary-Go-Round right off the truck - well, if you have a bunch of those dishonest drivers, they'll put in their 50 cent to make a company hit rock bottom. I kept the pay stubs as proof, in case I have to have some sort of verification for my years of experiences. It's still better than nothing at all. I also still have one of their hire signs - remember the red metal ones with white writing on? And...I still got a T-shirt, mug, and hat from Carretta. I also have to tell another story about how great they really were (after all). I try not to make it too long.
I had to get my licence renewed (it expired) and the DOT told me they couldn't do it because of two outstanding charges on my license which occured when I was driving for Carretta. That was AFTER I already drove for 3 more companies and way after I have been with Carretta (I think about 6 or 7 years have passed in between). I had absolutely no clue and inquired about the origins of the tickets. Well, one was for a trailer licence missing on a Carretta trailer (got that ticket in VA) and the other one was a speeding ticket I had paid, but Carretta had disputed without my knowledge (got that ticket in PA). The only thing I had from Carretta was the old 800 number on the sign I still have. I called that number and some lady answered. I explained to her my situation, gave her all kinds of proof that I had worked for Carretta (they still operate under "Load to Ride", which has been in Carretta hands for over 20 years) and she said "Ok, we take care of that". My dear, it didn't take her 2 hours and the tickets were taken care of. I never paid a dime, they were off my licence and I could get my licence renewed the same day. This is what Carretta has always done for me, even when I worked for them. This is how I remember Carretta....taking care of good drivers. Nobody has any idea how many times Carretta had to bail me out of jail so I and my co-driver could keep driving - and they never asked for their money back. I have many good stories from my Carretta days, but let me stop here or I'll be on this computer forever.
I have a friend right now who in some way is related to Joe and the rest, I think she is his 3rd cousin. Joe may have been doing shady deals, but I am grateful for all the good things he's done for me - I never had any beef with him whatsoever. If I ever buy my own truck, believe me, "Load to Ride" will be the first company I'll try to get on with. Maybe I sound nuts, but I really do miss working for Joe. The last company I worked for was very darn good too, but nobody has yet replaced the excitement, fun, pay...I had with Joe. And I very much doubt that it will ever happen. I talked to Joe personally in Paramus and didn't know who he was. He asked a few things about the (his) company and I told him what I thought. I critisized the slip seating and some of the lame mechanics in Paramus and a few other things. After that, I never had to wait to get my truck fixed or PM'ed, I never had to switch trucks again and to top it off, me and my co-driver back than (Mark) got a raise. How's that for a "bad" boss? I'd rather work for the mafia knowing that I work for the mafia, than some company that's not the mafia but treats me like I'm one of their slaves or one that owes them a million bucks. I loved working for the mafia. It was probably the closest we ever got to know them. To this day I haven't told anybody about any of the "shady" loads I had, and I had plenty of them. I would never do that to Joe because I owe him the best part of my trucker life. Simple is that...I am sure you know me too because I have been in Hunts Point quite a few times back then. Anyways, thanks for unloading me
!!!
BTW...What trucking company is not corrupt or makes shady deals or tries to screw the Feds? They all do !!!Last edited: Sep 27, 2012

If a company is TRASH they should be put Forcibly out of business. Shut them down and then the negativity will subside. They earn what is posted here. Yes there are two sides to most disagreements but many of these companies are so abusive they need corrective action.

Why don't people just stop driving for those companies? The only way a trucking company can exist is with drivers. No drivers - no company. So stop driving for those fools.Starboyjim Thanks this.
