I live close to a Pilot and a T/A and, my husband is a truck driver. We found it odd when we had heard about a truck driver that was ran over at the T/A a couple of years. The truck driver that ran over the man said that the guy was laying in the parking lot and that he "didn't see him". What we found odd about this story was, There was extensive damage to the bumper of the truck. That made no sence to us. also, this happened around the fuel island.

It's not just the parking lot race car drivers ! I go slow through the lots and I can't count the # of times some driver has walked right out in front of me. Talking on the phone or just plain not paying attention to what they're doing. Everyone has to be looking all the time, driving or walking.

Well to add to this, a few weeks ago my wife and i where walking across the fuel islands at the Pilot in Ky, A driver of a drive van was backing through the fuel islands no 4ways, not even looking just started to back up. he hit me and knocked me down dam near caught my wife between the trucks and backed into the truck on the fuel island. When i went up to the door of the truck, the driver seemed out of it and bearley could speak english! I know everyone needs to start somewhere and needs a chance but it seems they will gve a CDL to anyone who shows up for the party and some of these no name carriers will put anyone behind the wheel. its a sad thing this use to be an honarble decsent profesion

I drive a Peterbilt 387. I've had people walk right in front of my truck... close enough that I can't see them. I had a teenager walk out in front of me when my light turned green. Had he not been wearing an orange hat and been over 6' tall, we would have both become statistics that day.

Problem 1... people walk in front of trucks WAY TOO CLOSE! you have to put yourself out in front so others can see you.

Problem 2... drivers get into a hurry and don't look before they go.

Ever try driving a long nose Pete? You know the 359/379/389? You can't see jack in front of your nose and people LOVE walking in that blind spot.

EVERYONE has to be careful, not just drivers.

When walking thru the Truckstops, I like to make eye contact with the drivers when I think they may be getting ready to pull out, especially at Fuel Islands.

Easy remedy. Don't stop so close to the intersection and crosswalk. You know the problem, the public doesn't.

    X2!

And I never walk behind parked trailers that have another parked trailer opposed to it.

Im afraid they would have needed a second ambulance for the guy taking pic with cell phone! If Im walkin around a truck I make a point of walking far enough in front that I can see the drivers seat. It would be nice if some of these people would loose the self importance and maybe, I dont know, think!!
