eIf it is running good and has good oil samples I wouldn't waste waste the money right now.
I would pull the accessory drive and check the bull gear for play if no play then keep running and do oil samples.
After 750,000 miles the bull gear starts to wear if it goes then you have a problem.
But if you keep a eye on it the 60s are known to go 1.2m if taken Cate of.
And why would you buy a crate engine anyways, when if you really wanted to you could inframe yours?
Is there something wrong with your block?
That would be the only reason to get a crate.

"You have to spend money to make money" has got to be one of the most foolish statements I have ever heard. Then you better buy a new transmission and rearends to. What if they "leave you sitting on the side on the interstate"? Do you change all your tires when they have half their tread left? Do you change your oil at 7500 miles instead of 15,000, in fear it might leave you on the side of the road? You realize that motor you have is known for going 1,300,000+ without ever leaving someone on the side of the road? Just giving you something to think about, I hate to see people waste money on things like this when there is no reason. Do yourself a favor, get an oil sample pulled, spend a few bucks and put the truck on a dyno and go from there. And some of these guys telling you to go buy a remaned motor or rebuild it should be ashamed of themselves. I know for a fact (based on some posts here) one of the posters would not do anything to it until it started showing signs.

I just wanted to thank your post again. I can't believe what some of these other posters are telling this guy. They are talking out of the wrong end.

I'd pull oil and coolant samples on a regular basis as well as test for silica fallout on the coolant. Do that every oil change.

Have the shop run a full dyno and diagnostic on the engine. Especially a cylinder contribution.

not until ALL that is done and you've got a full 6-8sample history would I even consider a level I rebuild on my engine.

Drop in all the way, everything is new. you have warranty again. That engine doesn't owe you anything and is good for 100% core value. Replace the clutch @ basically no labour, and engine mounts. Give your rad cac and condensor a good look too. I know lots of guys that took this route and didn't regret ant of it.

BS? Where is the BS is my recommendation? Tantrum? Hardly. You're a little too sensitive. I didn't realize how this guy spent his money was any of your business, sorry. Replacing an engine with a reman is a perfectly legit way to repower your truck and cover all your bases! I don't see why you are so offended by that and feel the need to save the world. If you don't understand the pros of complete engine replacement, I am sorry, but that is your problem. For sure, replacement is more expensive, but you do get your money's worth. Do you feel I am trying to scam this guy or something? It's just a recommendation. Did I cross the border and go into Syria where I am not allowed to talk? You're entitled to your opinion, and I to mine. You guys are pretty quick to put the op down. He comes here for some advice, you gave yours, and I gave mine. I am not attacking your opinion. Whatever, you must be the kind of guy that needs to be right all the time, yes yes, I know the type. Do you know how much money you guys waste on stupid chrome and lights. At least this guy wants to spend money that will actually make his truck better. Me, ashamed, naaah. You and the lemmings can run off the cliff. I'll gladly walk the other way!

Oh and i'm with them on the engine, if the numbers call for it and you can afford it ( VS inframe) then by all means. Also call around toll free to all the Freightliner dealers for price. I saw a 14L on a skid for 10k in Houston last year. It was ready to go......might have been an everyday deal or a one timer, dunno.

And of course, if you going in then don't go to the commode with out paper.... get engine mounts, rad reworked, ck chg air cooler, clutch and do all hoses. Fix it once, fix it right and be done with it.....

    JMO.....
