I seen drivers delivering heavy scrap lpaper oads, and those big-### paper rolls were being live-loaded. Drivers had to wait in a staging area for their turn, some waited overnight. Only been there once, never want to go back.
Don't know about seeing any plywood. I didn't see any flatbeds.

GP deals in many varieties of pulp products. Paper Rolls absolutely suck, I remember those days. I hauled a load one day from a town in the WV mountains near Springfield, WV. The load was near 48000 and it was a slow ride out. Fortunately JB had a drop & hook set up there and I didn't have to wait. I just didn't feel comfortable then with the load. I love hauling plywood though. It is just as heavy, but the frame on the trailer steadies it some and I use plenty of straps, so no worries about it falling off.

I've hauled paper loads in vans for GP. As a general rule they suck. I've hauled from their resin plants with a tanker and they were pretty good about loading and unloading. Never pulled a flatbed so I can't tell you about them.

I haul van dedicated GP out of Crossett, AR. Mostly tissue and paper towels which average about 15000lbs going to Wal-Mart DC's in the southeast. Sometimes I haul large rolls of paper to other GP locations some are live unloads and some are drop and hooks. On backhauls I do scrap paper sometimes or pickup beverages going back to Dollar General in Indianola,MS. I actually enjoy the account. Sometimes they get behind in Crossett and you have to wait on loads but most of the time loads get ready early and you can get in and out in 30 minutes. Crossett is a very truck friendy city as well and they are building a new truck stop accross from the Walmart. I am in Crossett now and going to leave in the morning heading to Meridian, MS with a load. I get home once a week and get by the house once maybe twice during the week depending on my load. The good thing is I only live 60 miles from Crossett.
Martyrponder Thanks this. -
martman i was just there a few weeks ago.
as a general rule if youre going to be hauling gp, (or any other freight that the shippers will require it) get your own hardhat. i used theres, and have ring worm in perfect little splotches in the shape of the head band, to show for it.
thank god for lamisil. -

The WalMart(Equate) version of Lamisil AT works just as good, For almost $4.00 less. -

I now officially hate GP. I picked up paper rolls last week from the Taylorsville plant in Miss. USA Truck told me they had a confirmed appt hardtime for 1000. Our company is lately VERY anal and unforgiving on making on-time pickups and deliveries so I always try to be early with plenty of room. Got there at 0900 to see a line of trucks waiting to get inspected at the sweepout dock. Was scared I'd be late for check in because of it but bumped sweep dock and checked in at 0945. Trailer passed inspection and I was directed to another line of trucks waiting for the 5 (YES 5!) live load docks where I idled until I got a dock at 1230. I pulled away loaded at 1400 and then had the dispatcher ######## when I had to tell him that I would not be able to make it to Dallas area until the morning.
Today I was supposed to pick up from the Port Hudson, LA plant. This was a confirmed appt for drop $ hook at 1500. I got here early at 1300 and was told it wasn't ready, check back in 3 hours. I came back at 1500, check back in 3 hours. At 1800, check back in 3 hours. At 2000, you guessed it! I finally had it after the girl at the gate could not give me an ETA for the load and refused to call anyone and ask. I told her she should call and ask them if they needed me to come help them figure out how to load the trailer and she said "Sir, all I can tell you is check back in 3 hours.". So I told her "Well, I was going home to visit my family en route to deliver your products. It's ok I guess, I'm just going to have to charge the company detention pay for the wasted time.". That seemed to rattle her a little as I walked off. Probably won't help speed them up but it made me feel better! -
Rude isn't the proper word for any of those POS in there. I fell off their unlit platform scale, broke 3 ribs, and all those pukes could do was look away when I got up off the ground. Not even a ,"Are you alright?". I hate that place. As bad as any mallwart.
I haul into their FlakeBoard plant nightly up at the Canadian Soo. It's a nice place, decent people, well laid out, well lit. Actually fairly typical of most of the GP's I've been to.
