I was just watching a trucker video on youtube, and he pulled into a truck stop....I noticed the choices for food were something like Wendy's, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, and DQ....

Is this the norm for truck stops to have just the big chains at them ? Or can you also find a good amount of diners / Mom & Pop type joints ?

    thanks, BT

Yes, many good diners; Mom & Pop and also some of the bigger chain truckstops have good sitdown meals. I really like the Petro buffet, Iowa 80 , etc. Keep a little notebook and write down the Mom & Pop places w/exit numbers, etc. Get the information from other truckers on the CB radio, billboards, etc. Yes, one can eat healthy as a trucker. Sometimes you may be at a truckstop with just fast food, but if you look across the street, there is a good place to get a healthy meal.

I like to stop in at the larger grocery stores. The prepared food they have is usually healthier and I often get stuff to make in the truck.

"Fuel" stops, such as Pilot and Loves, have fast food. "Truck" stops, such as TA, Petro, Sapp Bros and "Mom and Pops", usually have sit down resturants and many offer both.
