Hypothetically, if I could get my hands on a truck, that would cost me next to nothing, litteritly next to nothing, is there potential that I could use the truck as a o/o for local work
its a road truck. I'm between Chattanooga Tn. and Atlanta Ga. Locate in Dalton Ga, the carpet Capitol. Iv come across a drop yard for containers and briefly talked to a driver that was there.
Let's say if I wanted to haul around the containers from dalton to Atlanta or something of that nature.
How would I go about that, and what could the income potential be like.
im not interested in otr, as iv got a newborn at home, and that's where I want to be.
Also, it would be for a company, not having my ownauthority.

    Thanks in advance, s2b

Doesn't sound like you have this planned.
Which is never a good thing when running your own bussiness.
I would gather some more info about potentiel clients before i start up.:yes2557:

    I have.

Last line in my answer says it all.

You can see who owns the trailers?
    Well,call them.
Ask them if they need an local O/O and what they will pay.
    Legwork and phonecalls.

don;t think there would be enough as a local o/o too much risk in my mind and not enough revenue to cover your expenses .....that close to atlanta you could prob find a decent day job pulling containers out of atlanta and with the newborn you will want insurance .....just my .002

I'm a O/O who runs locally and i do make better money then the guys running OTR.
BUT in a very different part off the world.

You need to check rates in your area and go from there.
Go talk to the firms who have the work.

Be warned that at first it will not be easy.
And being an O/O isn't for all.

Most folks cannot hack the O/O gig. It takes desire, patience, a good work ethic, brains, business knowledge, the list goes on and on. More complicated than being a local driver, but it does have it's rewards.
There is lots of freight in that area, used to haul out Dalton .Not high paying, most of it is tied up by larger companies, but I always got loads for myself out of there. Make your contacts first, find a GOOD reputable company to lease to.Avoid newer,start-up companies. Do your homework, ask around. Pulling containers is not a get rich quick job, matter of fact some is dirt cheap, but there is plenty of work around Atlanta / Choo Choo. Keep us advised.

I think being local is the BEST way to be an O/O....you have the opportunity to form a close working relationship with a small number of shops and parts suppliers who see you on a regular basis...so you'll get better prices and faster service than someone off the street...and once you find shops and parts suppliers who do good work for a fair price, you can use them exclusively (which is WHY they give you better prices and faster service). Not only that, but you can set up accounts with these local shops and parts suppliers, which can buy time to pay for unexpected repairs.

You are NEVER going to be at the mercy of whoever you might find in the yellow pages or stuck in a roach-infested motel in BFE for 2 weeks while billy bob's shade tree garage fixes your truck at 3x the going rate because you have no other options....and then have to come up with the cash to pay the bill in full before the truck can leave their shop.
