Well I didn't mean to offend you, but I knew that speaking that kind of truth would get some reaction. I'm not afraid of competition I've been doing this for a long time. But like others have said the only way rates go up is a low number of trucks or a high supply demand. When the market is flooded with trucks rates only go down. And when the market place is flooded with bad trucks more regulation is put into place. As for my attitude toward anyone I feel it's important to judge not on appearance but on the job they do. With that being said when you do a poor job it's important someone say something.
RATES!!!

These guys that start these threads, I would love to listen in on their calls and see how they conduct themselves. What Bill is telling you here is to set yourself apart from everyone else. Make the brokers and customers want to do business with you, by doing this you will weed out the ones that care about their customers, their product and you. This will bring you the loads that never see a load board. If you want to look and act like everyone else you will get the same crappy rates as them. My next load that I am picking up on Monday I had originally turned down. I am leased to a carrier that has agents/brokers. I have done several loads for this agent and customer. When we turn loads down the agent can see who has refused loads as well as matched themselves to the loads. The agent calls me offering more money to take the load, so I did. He calls the customer to setup a load time, the customer always wants to know who the driver is. When they found out it was me they the customer put more money on the load. When I deal with agents and customers I talk like I am in church, not in a truck stop. My truck and myself are always clean, weather permitting. It's the little things that will make you stand out and beable to command a higher rate.whoopNride, volvodriver01, Container Hauler and 3 others Thank this.

Offended? Reaction? Truth? Bad trucks? What?
In my company all equipment is brand new or younger than 2007. A contractor driver can clear 1400 ( 1100 is bottom of the barrel)with dry van a week (not even owning the truck) and spend the reset at home .The trucks are governed at 75 or 70, so it is legal and very doable . Owner operators net around 2000. But I see your side of the story, when I choose to go to NJ, which is almost never ,I am glad they do not allow firearms in truck, I sometimes just begin to think of shooting people because they behave like they want to die anyways and there are way too many of them already, foreigners and citisens, lol
A poor job? What is that supposed to mean? I pick up, deliver ontime in a road ready rig - what do you do? What is your special secret? A smile while talking on the phone and an Armani shirt when vis-a-vis?
In my area good companies beg for good drivers, you could get out of that Taco Bell hole you live in and enjoy easier miles and money. -
Not exactly something I find humorous to even closely joke about. Why so upset you think you have to resort to violence? And people wonder why guns are under attack.
It's mentalities such as yours that think you need to resort to violence to solve the issues that are the problem.FORESTGUMP Thanks this. -
Hold on a second, clean and talking like in a church... You sure you chose the proper career path?

Oh boy, pressure,pressure... I heard this from a guy at a TA in PA, he said he wanted to move to NJ and just begin killing people. I responded that is the best place to start. Then me, him and a mechanic who did the PM on our trucks laughed about this . Ominous music and laughter revealing missing teeth ...
On a serious note, I would rather have the US have a similar to South Korea strict gun control.Just watched a good movie' Yellow Sea'. A lot of conflicts are solved with an axe.Warning:if you feel dizzy when you see blood , think about blood or read 'blood' do not watch it.Last edited: Sep 30, 2012

Personally I don't see the problem with rates right now besides guys keep hauling it cheap (or cheaper than it should be). If your rates are not enough to support your business plan then your business plan needs adjusted. My rate and FSC covers all expenses with plenty of profit left over...plus I make more on the FSC when fuel goes up (just like many others on here do). Hell I'm on track to have a record year in almost every income/profit catagory and I've worked about 3 weeks less this year.
BigBadBill Thanks this. -
Whoa dude, what are you the thought police?!?!? We no longer allowed to think what we want? LOL No harm ever came from anyone thinking anything. The harm comes from acting out or on those thoughts. -
Bullfinch! So you accept a rate and the customer decides too give you more money cause you talk good! I bet the ladies really love your customer!
I've been doing this for awhile! Off loadboards if you bid anything over$2.00 you don't get the load.
That's for flatbed! So! Please do share the rate you did the load for! Maybe your a cheap hauler!

Pardon me for not taking talking of killing someone lightly.
I was denied parenting time with my kids because a judge THOUGHT I looked intimidating. I have been in the physical labor market all my life. Hard work never bothered me. As a result, I have the physical build that works well there. My ex-wife simply said she was scared. There was never any actual physical abuse. NEVER.
I told my employer in January this year during my probation that I was seeking other work. 3 weeks later, they escorted me out with a MN State patrol officer sitting next to my car and actually followed me out of the work site. I was NEVER violent at work.
Just this week, we had TWO workplace shootings in the Minneapolis Metro area. Both from disgruntled workers who were fired. 9 dead in all.
This is an Email I received the day after the shootings.
And my response to her.
It's just a comment that one would even consider work place violence that I find reprehensible. In the mean time, the very people that commit that violence do nothing but spark the very fire that restricts my rights further.Last edited: Sep 30, 2012
