Yep, well out in the woods probably isn't the best place to post from

So you are saying that drivers should just blindly follow what they're rold from a recruiter? That's an intersting take. Nobody is looking out for your best interest. Every decision you make when it comes to driving jobs should be a business decision. Different companies are good for different things. Some are good training companies, some are good for miles, some are good for benefits. Figure out what fits your needs. If it doesn't don't let some smooth talker sign you up for something just to make their quota. Run a balance sheet, hell maybe even give yourself a cooling off period before signing up.

But don't listen to me, my front office perspective rules the roost. Or some such crap.

No, I'm saying some companies see these people coming. They are desperate for a job to feed their families etc. In these trying economic times it might as well be a gun to the head.

You always take the company side of the post and blame the drivers. That's all I'm saying

I can see that point, but desperate times should not be a time for quick action. This should be the time where you look at the decision and ask yourself, does this actually benefit me? I don't actually believe that any company wants drivers to fail, just that they're too big, or too disorganized to figure out why people are failing. That's just me, and I don't have that much experience, hell I don't even have that much life experience, but what I do have (quite by accident) is a freakin awesome job.

It's good that they read the comments. If there's a problem a driver isn't man enough to bring to their attention, this website gives them insight as to what they need to do. Some complaints are pure BS, such as "my company forces me to run illegally." How does a company force you to run illegally: put a gun to your head or take a hostage? Anyone that runs illegally, is doing so voluntarily. If you're unhappy, then give a 2 week notice and go somewhere else, such as a company with elogs.

    To AfterShock !!!

:biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559:Hahahahaha, I love the "Mr. Hammer-Rhoid" title...Been sitting here in my recliner, LOL, tears running down my cheeks and my ears are hurting - That was a good one !!! I'm "just" a skinny little chick (if I hit 105 lbs, I got change in my pockets :biggrin_25525:) that happens to love truck driving, but...and here it comes...I do have a deeper, raspier voice (probably because of my BELOVED cigarettes:biggrin_25514:) and when I talk on the CB, mostly everybody thinks I'm a guy - it just blew my mind, that I even sound like a guy on the internet! - It's been an hour or so since I read your comment, and I'm still grinning from ear to ear, that it hurts. I can't be loud 'cuz people are sleeping, otherwise, I would SCREAM !!! :glasses7: HAHAHAHAHAHA...I can barely type here - I'm almost exploding:biggrin_2559:...Just a moment, I've got to wipe my tears off...Oh man, that really was a good one! I'll try to put paragraphs in my comments from now on, but I won't promise I always remember. Deal?

Your story was a good one too. Loved the read !!! That's how they are, the "connected" folks - friendly, honest, welcoming, warm, open-hearted, HELPFUL...but don't cheat them! Carretta has done so much for me, people have no idea. Believe me, I'm not one of those females that say "Yes" and "Amen" to everything. I got a BIG mouth...but don't think I won't back it up. I got into A LOT of trouble with "the law" (and a few other unpleasant people) while I was with Carretta, but I can assure you...I never sat more than 2 hours in jail anywhere (and I saw many jails in many different states), and I never had to worry about my job. They always had my back. - And just to calm you all down (no hate mail please), I'm still the outlaw at heart, but I'm much more relaxed now and haven't seen the inside of a jail in...ummmm....???....8 years. That's a record for me! -

Yeah, some of us at Carretta knew how to turn those rigs up a notch...not necessarily the legal or ethical way, but it worked like a charm. Mine ran 91 ! I was flying !!! Hehe, I got pulled by a State "Pooper" in NV one time (with Carretta) going 87 in a - what was it? - 65 I think. I was soooo lucky! He was going "blah, blah blah" and suddenly his CB came on and they were talking about a robbery in progress and he had to go there. The Pooper just looked at me and said "I hope you needed fuel really, really bad". I said "Yes Sir", got back in my truck and and tried my hardest not to lock eyes with him again in any way, shape, or form. All I heard on my way to the cab was " And when I come back, you better be out of my State!" You have no idea how fast I was out of NV. That ticket would have hurt baaaaaaaad!
Well, that was just a short story to your " I could never catch 'em". Oh man, it was so easy to beef those old Petes and Freightliners up. That was something right up my alley :love10:. Shoot...I'm reminiscing again....

I can just imagine that "adventure" you had - great one! People have really no idea what Carretta had to go through with me....I got stories up my sleeves, I'm sometimes wondering myself how I made it to here. But what a groovy roller coaster ride it has been! Wouldn't want to miss one second of it. Heck no!

Alright now, I gotta get some sleep. Thanks for your funny story, I'll be grinning myself to sleep :biggrin_25525: . I wish more "older" drivers would tell us their stories from "back then". I bet we'd hear some really, really funny stuff. Take care AfterShock!

The truth shall set you free.....if a driver says something, he/she should be proud to stand behind their word, anywhere, any time.

So what I am seeing here is that the Trucking Industry and the Carriers or Trucking Companies in particular want their drivers to violate the HOS, be abused, refused home time, disrespected through lies and deception all in an order to keep their Business operating within acceptable limits. And it is only the responsibility of the Potential Driver to figure out what is acceptable or not. The Company has no responsibility toward the driver.

Orientation at most Companies does not even allow time to review and process all of the legal jargon incorporated into the hiring documents. When asked for copies at the last place I worked they refused to provide them and this added to my decision to leave them. Apparently I sold my Soul and all potential earnings throughout my lifespan and that of my Kids. This is a line of crap and whoever preaches that it was in the documents that you signed is abusing the employee. This as well as other aspects is how Wars erupt. Where is the common sense and appreciation for the worker? If there is none than the company needs to be closed.

Turnover in the industry is in part caused by the deception put forth to the drivers. Companies will be held accountable sooner or later.

    Yes si,..... er, ...... ma'am ?

    No!
    No!
    It was a mistake,
    an assumption on my part.
    Honest!!
    I ain't really that witty.
    :biggrin_25512:
Camel Wides here, ... puff, puff :smt028 oops, sorry for interruptin', my bad, .... please continue, --- I'm all ears
Considerin' how rude some, .... uhhhh, gentlemen?, ..... become when they hear a woman on the C.B., --- soundin' like a guy just might be in your favor.
Just don't go thinkin' like one.
A mind is a terrible thang to blow.
    SO ,...... you ain't mad?
    It's all good?
    ~~ whew! ~~~
    If that's the case,
Are you aware you have an accent too?
    Just sayin' Not complainin'.
Personally, I like the sound of it all.
Now see?!That right thar is the normal response I usually get, often followed by attempted insults that go waayyy over my head. But in my favor, I did have the forethought of having "DIPUTS" written backwards on my forehead, includin' font, so I can read it in the mirror to remind me.
    'Cause sometimes I forget.
Memory --- second thang to go
    don'tçha know.
    OK, ...... WoW!
    Would'ja lookit that!
    I got a royal flush.
    I'll take three cards, ...........................

Not that the story in question qualifies as a bad experience, but as far as those that do, have y'all ever noticed the our worst experiences become our best (what I call my) Star Spangled Road Stories? Although I favor the better episodes. Then, there are some I never mention 'cause I ain't sure even I would believe what I'd say.
    Thank you for the complement.
If you enjoyed mine half as much as I'm enjoyin' yours, we're probably on the same page.
    That don't happen too often.
Nice when it does, .......... but I digress, ........ a lot,
    :biggrin_25521:
Those were the daze they call "Good Ol'".
I'd venture to say that not too many understand the way it was, even fewer who've experienced it first hand. Now that MoonBeam Brown, Governor of the Land-0-Fruits & Nutz, made the headlines with his backing of the driverless car, how long do y'all reckon it'll be before three million Big truck truck driver's jobs will disappear. Which would have a ripple effect on Big truck truck stops/Travel Centers. Good part would be plenty-0- parkin', and no jugs disposed of improperly. That'd be good, ..... right?

    Bad thing?
I doubt whatever gizmo drives those driverless Big trucks will be able to tell Big truck trucker Big truck truckin' stories anywhere near as, ...... uhh, ..... colorfully(?) as the real deal.
Do they even have a voice?
Will they wave at each other when they pass? Flash-Flash, Blink-Blink.
    Boop-Boop!.
Nothin'like the feelin' of Big horses and a ton-0-torque under the right foot. The driver who drove the Big truck before me received a speedin' citation, --- clocked at 113 mph, he was slightly over the limit, but said she still had more left. Couldn't prove it by me. All I know is I ran outta speedo long before I ran outta tach. Never took 'er all the way in the top hole.
But I did get to run 'er about 90 --> 95 mph with a Nevada Highway Patrol officer right behind me, and he even thanked me with a salute.
    Imagine that.
    It's twue!
    It's twue!
    Ahhh --- duty calls.
Just remember not to forget, .. when every second counts, .. the police are mere minutes away.
    Didn't wanna intimedate him?
    No doubt!
Fortunately for you, you weren't drivin' faster than your Guardian Angel can fly.
    :smt051
    Shoot, ...... don't stop now.

Somehow, I believe, if anybody can it'd be you. :smt045

If I have only one life to live
Let me live my life aa a
    Big truck truck driver
    over again.

    Oh ShuX!
    What time is it?
I gotta go too, but not bed.
    You're welcome.
    My pleasure.
Imagine what folks would think you were dreamin' that put a grin on your face? :laughing1:
    YeaH!
    Especially the serious ones.
    Oh, all right.
    If you insist.
But only if you'll do the same.
    Deal?
