you won't be in the truckstop long enough to recharge your shaver long enough to get a shave. i don't think theres any shaver that can recharge in 15 minutes.
i have a trimmer that's battery operated. i'm home every wekend. my batteries last 4 weeks. my trimmer works close enough that i don't worry about shaving anymore.
i bought from some store for $5. but that was years ago. i'm surprised the thing still works. haven't been able to find a replacement.

When you fuel the trainer may let you use your card at least you can get free showers. I used to get my students free showers called them my codriver. Someone said your trainer will make money off you yep a good week at 6300 miles he should take home after expenses $ 3,300.00 or so yes $ 3,300.00 I did the more drive time you have the more confident you get that's what it's all about.
for whoever is talking about shavers if your trainer has an inverter just plug it on there it will charge then you'll be ready. -
I think someone needs to talk to that trainer bet he made good chunk of change off you a few free showers is nothing to what you gave to him.

Something that small is nothing compared to the confidence I left training with. He prepared me to succeed. And so far, I'm doing as well as any company driver can expect in their first year. Yes, a lot of that is sheer determination, but he showed me the mechanics of putting my efforts to good use. Plus, with 40+ years behind the wheel, I'll probably have some hangups and complexes where I think everybody is after my money too... Lol.

For those that care, I am posting my days through training (at WVC) on KWS's thread (Follow me through Central refrigeration training 2) ... hoping I got the link right - if not, just look it up. Started training today - didn't think it was bad at all - read my post to find out more (my post on training starts at #57)

Yah I know that seems kind of messed up of that school you went to to charge you all that money to get a CDL and not even help you get a job, what a scam. At least at Central you are guaranteed a job at the end of their training, and unfortunately there are a lot of shotty schools out there and people doing the self study plan so it makes since that Central would want to run the inexperienced driver through some extra training, just to make sure. I agree with you that a ride along should be sufficient, but there is only so much they can find out in a few miles around SLC.
You are not reuired to sign a lease. I used to be in sales so I know how sales people work, they are just working leads. Make it clear you have no interest in leasing and eventualy they will figure out you are a dead lead and leave you alone for the most part. I would blame the leasing department not Central. If you are a good driver Central wants to keep you, true they make more money off of you as a l/o but they are not going to make any if you quit, then they will have to get someone else trained to take your place.
You said "
I was looking for a company with decent or better equipment, reasonable starting pay and the opportunity to run all 48 states, especially a chance to get out West. Have I misjudged/misunderstood Central? "
Central will give you all of these. The other stuff is just office bs/politics and will be found at any major carrier.
I hope that helpsArkansas Frost and Nottoway Thank this. -
I have a Philips Norelco razor I bought at Walmart. It has a rapid charge on it and will charge up in 15 min so you can shave. On a full charge the battery will last for a week without having to charge. I like the electric better than blades because you can shave anywhere.

i can shave anywhere with blades.

Ok, here's the latest. Talked with my recruiter again last night. Got a little different story...I really wonder if he's new and learning himself...didn't think to ask him that, I will next time.
If you have graduated from CDL school (with minimum 160 hours of training) within the last 60 days, you only attend Central's 3 day orientation...followed by the 5 weeks of OTR training. I live in Virginia and would go directly to Utah for everything. If you wait past the 60 day mark, then you are required to take their refresher course.
I am filling out docs right now and returning them to the recruiter and looking at a October 22nd start date. My only issue is (and I told the recruiter) I am taking physical therapy for a shoulder injury that occurred at home several weeks ago. Because I graduated August 31st, the Oct 22nd date was as late as was safe to get in under the 60 day window. However, I have resigned myself to the fact that if I am not physically ready in another couple of weeks, I will have to delay my start date...take the refresher and just suffer the (financial) consequences. And when I think about it, I can't have too much training anyway!
If anyone has any questions they'd like me to ask the recruiter, let me know.
Thanks everybody! -
sounds like things are looking better. Once this is all behind you and your in your own truck life will be good. Good luck on your traning.Nottoway Thanks this.
