Straight pipes can get you noise tickets, and no muffler tickets. Muffled you will not have those problems. Some people think straight pipes sound way cool and have to have them. Most people realize yes, they are cool, but only for the MAYBE few minutes a day you are somewhere you can "show off." If they are WAY too loud you may eventually loose some of your hearing. Straight pipes flow the exhaust gases way better and is better for the engine, but there are mufflers out there that are straight through, from what I hear they make a nice sound, and are totally legal.

Most straight pipes aren't super loud but they give better fuel economy and more power...

Go the middle route.... get something like high flow Donaldson or Walker Megaflows and put them on. Straight thru design and only a little louder than stock. And cheap. $100 to $120 a muffler current pricing.

in Colorado straight pipes without a baffle will cost you $500 and a mandatory repair at most POE's, especially Monument.
