Got some questions for all those drivers who have gone thru and passed Roehl's orientation.
It will be close to 90 days since I have last been in a truck before I will be able to go to orientation. Should I do a 4 hour session with the school that I graduated from just to get a feel for driving a truck again prior to heading to Wisconsin? Or will I have plenty of drive time at orientation to remove any rust off before I test out? I feel confident right now, but who knows by the middle of December!
Sucks that I have to wait, but the Doc says I have a hernia. Lucky me! 4 to 6 weeks after surgery before I am allowed to do any lifting. I guess its best to get it done now, especially since I am considering switching to flatbed after my 1st 6 months. Everything is a GO with Roehl besides this med issue.
Thanks to all
Refresher before orientation?

Fresh from school and didn't get a chance to go to a company or previous driver that has experience?
If you know how to safely operate the truck and shift, say did it for atleast 5-6 months before the incident I wouldn't do a refresher. If you were a fresh from school driver no experience at all, maybe I would recommend it. But it all depends on how well you can operate that truck.. That would be what makes that decision for me.
8-9 day orientation, first day or so is paperwork, rest is driving and learning policies. Any "rust" you may have might get worked off quickly, but every person is different my friend.acouplyr Thanks this. -
Yeah I am fresh out school. I feel like I can operate the truck well for a newbie and am confident that I would pass orientation if I was scheduled to go next week or so. My problem is mid December. Will I lose that truck driving feeling, or is it like riding a bike where after a few days at orientation I am right back at it.
The refresher will cost me another $350 for 4 hours, but it may be well worth it. Just seems so long even now since I've been behind the wheel and it was only 2 weeks ago. I do miss it! -
Well I don't want to say yeah and you waste money doing it. If you feel comfortable then I wouldn't.
Me personally, knowing how much of a stickler I am, I'd do it. But thats me personally. -
I took about 3 months off after training because of an accident. I had been solo for about a month. I had a little more experience then you do but my first day back in the truck i had zero issues. I wouldnt be to worried about it. But i guess if the price is right, 4 more hours of practice couldnt hurt.

The money spent would be worth having peace of mind. Even if I don't need it, better safe than sorry. I just don't know what to expect at orientation so yeah, I am definitely leaning towards taking a 4 hour refresher. Definitely can't hurt!

Honestly IF you show them you can drive there truck in a SAFE and CONTROLLED way. Do a proper pre-trip and pass there little heart rate test your golden. REMEMBER safe and controlled, dont rush anything.

This mite be a dumb questionbut when you guys talk about testing out from being with a trainer. What do you mean by that? What kinda test?
-
Kind of what I was hoping. That they won't be to picky on your driving skills at that phase, but when you test out after being with a trainer, they up the expectations.
-
I believe your driving is tested before you are actually officially hired. The first week is basically a long interview process for them to see if they want to invest any further in you (Phase1). You would then test again after being with a trainer for several weeks, before you get your own wheels (Phase2).
From what I've read, I don't believe the tests are very hard.wistrucker101 Thanks this.
