Wow, this thread has gone the opposite direction of the spirit of this forum. We are here to help people, not put them down for asking questions. Its the whole reason the forum was created. HELPING.

I can understand your view on these issues however as others suggested, go to a trucking company that recycles its fleet every three years. Stevens and Trans Am do that pretty often. They just got rid of their 09 KW T2000's and 09 Peterbilt 387's in favor of KW T700's. Chances are at either of these companies you will have a chance to drive a newish truck with an APU which provides AC while the engine is shut off. Go to a company like these and you will get an opportunity to drive a new eventually. The happiest thing is you do not have to pay for maintenance unless you are a lease operator.

Regarding insurance companies; The only one I know that will insure a new driver is progressive and their rates are sky high. Wish I was joking but I am not. Ask any o/o and they say the more experience and a clean driving record, the cheaper it will be.

I don't think anyone is putting him down. If he's being put down, its not because he's asking questions, its because he is ignoring the answers to his questions.

Him: I want to do A.
Everyone else: You really shouldn't do A until you do B and C first.
Him: Yeah I don't want to do B and C, I just want to do A.
Everyone else: If you do it that way you're probably going to fail.
Him: Yeah I'm going to completely ignore that last bit and ask again about doing A without doing B or C first.

Everyone in this thread is genuinely trying to help him which I believe is the intent of this forum. But when he ignores the answers that he doesn't seem to want to hear and continually asks the same question over and over, people get a little annoyed. Can you blame them?

My new 2010 with only 16k miles when i got it as a company drive ate 2-3 gallons of oil a week roughly a gallon per 1k miles by 25k miles it was down to 1-2 gallons a week after it hit 100k it used about 2 gallons a months that's 15.00 a gallon I'll let you do the math, Oil consumption is not covered under warranty neither are Headlights 10-65 bucks tail light turn signals 3-8 bucks My personal favorite Windshields I lost 5 in one week at 200.00 pop (this was according to my dispatcher) Another truck I blew a drive tire in a construction zone 1 lane no pull offs for 8 miles limped 8 miles as i was pulling off I blew a second drive tire that took out the mud flap had to have all 4 tires and the mud flap replaced Plus the service call it was over 2k None of this is covered under warranty. Do some math you buy a new truck you will 5.5 to 8 mpg you drive 3000 miles per week and fuel is 4.00 a gallon that's coming out of your pocket.
Still want to buy a new truck and lease it on stop by any truck stop pick up some of the little ad books that companies advertize in call them up be honest with them I'm joe snuffy I'm getting my class A CDL next week then going to the dealing to buy a new truck and am thinking of leasing on with you see what they say, ask them what it cost you to lease on using there plates and Insurance and trailers. I have 3 friends leased to 3 different carriers #1 8 years of driving has no truck payment it cost him 600 a week #2 4 years of driving with a truck payment 1100 and #3 the Idiot that would not lision with a whole 1 year of driving got that shiny new truck on lease purchase 1900 a week.
Guys have given you the best advice there is go drive a company truck for a couple of years find a company that trades out there fleet every 3 years odds are you will be in a new truck really quick then track everything not just fuel and maintains, make a log enter every load you do 30 mile or 3000 don't matter log point A to point B Paid miles and hub miles the route you took the avg daily temp and wind speed and wind directions and the trucks avg speed and load weigh. do that for a couple of years by then you will have had a chance to see hear feel and in some cases smell what it's like and what it take to do this as a life style.

So your question is what separates O/O's that make money and the ones that don't?

A successful O/O has driven for many years as a company driver and knows what they are doing before they buy a brand new truck.

I have come to the conclusion that this is just a troll and there is no way possible that you are serious about this or would even consider doing this!

There is absolutely no way you would make a positive pay check in this entire endeavor and for you to want to spend so much money to do so is just insane. Did you win the lotto and just want to drive a truck? This would be the only reason for this. With my 16 years of experience and having been an O/O for most of those years, if I had $150,000 I still wouldn't go buy a new truck in hopes to make money. As a husband/wife team with many years experience we leased a new truck and found it very tough to make money. We had to run 24/7 for 4 months straight, as a team, to be able to afford it.

Obviously I am well aware this path is totally against the grain of what people do when they start in this industry. I totally get that and understand that. This whole thing is about whether it is possible to do this or not regardless of the cost.

Yea trying to gather as many opinions as possible is really trolling. What I am asking about isn't trolling in anyway.

What you are asking about makes no sense, If you want to drive new truck go buy a new truck and drive...you've already said finances don't matter so just go buy a truck find a company to hire and train you. You have been given the same answers over and over and over..... just do it.
