Not a DOD load, just a pipe load going to the FT. Knox Gold mine just north of Fairbanks. As far as the satellite. I havent heard anything about that but not saying that it might not be true but never heard of that and I know someone who pulls some DOD loads every now and then.![]()

I just got back from Alaska the other day. I took some freight up to the air force base near Fairbanks, then brought back my reefer load to the lower 48. This is the 3rd year running I've made the trip and the 2nd with a 48x102 spread axle. Luckily I was very light up and back, and as stated above BC, AB, SK only allow 20,000 pounds on the trailer tandems - Yes, retarded. The Yukon allows 40k like here in the states, but obviously you cant get there without running through BC (canadas version of kaliphornia). I plate my tractor and trailers all for Alaska. The annual plate runs $350 ish ( cant recall exactly) and have had the Alaska trucking association do titles and registrations for me.
I have been to all 50 states, driven a big truck in 49 and most of Canada and can honestly say that IMO the trip is hands down the most scenic anywhere in North America. Near mucho lake BC is the highlight.
This is my first time trying to get video on the Alcan and it came out okay but not the most scenic/best stretch of highway. I had a gopro hero cam mounted on my beacon, this in BC
This video I took last month in Alaska, but again not the most scenic.
This I took near Destruction bay Yukon terr last week
No peelot truckstops to be found, so I did a 10 for the night here.
I must have seen at leat 100 bison last week, far more that in other years

I have never seen Muncho Lake without ice on it. Every time is was weeks away from thawing out from what I was told. That is the one destination where I really have to think if I want to go again. The views are something else, but I just don't know if I have one more in me for Alaska.

Would love to know what exactly you have to do to make this trip as o/o. Do you need canadian authority. I hear you need special tires. I would run a 53 ft reefer up there. Any help would be appreciated. Me and the wife would love to do this for a summer thanks!

Purchased a milepost subscription recently that tells you where you can stop and different routes.

Look at my very first post and it will give you a lot of info. Special tires arent needed unless wintertime maybe like a deep lug tire but definitely wouldnt want regular chains during winter. The Trygg's with the studs on them are preferred, they use VHF radio, and will want better lighting and probably one of those big moose bumpers. Summertime running wont need most of this. You will need a pass card, passport or enhanced license to travel through canada and will need a canadian bond (not sure what else) You will also need " In transit" paperwork to carry the load thru canada from the lower 48 to AK and from AK back to the lower 48.
