    My point is this.

Right now people are coming into this industry because whatever they have been doing has gone away or they just aren't making the money they think they should be making. They see trucking as a way to BIG money. Sure some will see that. The majority ( look at the stats) will not and will leave.

I started driving because it was something that I always wanted to do. I make a good living but I've had some lean times too. During those lean times it was my love of all this that kept me going.

This industry is not one that anyone should come into with rose colored glasses on. To many come into it because it's the "last" hope they have.

Murdog, have you wondered why so many truckers complain on this website, yet, they're still trucking down the road. When I was in the Navy, the saying was, " a bi##h#ing sailor is a happy sailor."

Are you sure God put that sign in front of you? A driver recruiter could have been responsible. They're not in touch with God. I checked and double checked on this for you. They're not in touch with God.

The trucking recruiting game is like the military recruiting game. You go into a Navy recruiter's office and there are all of these posters showing sailers frolicking at some exotic, beautiful european port. And how if you don't like that, you can probably get a transfer to Pearl Harbor ... 2 years later ... "uhhh no, sorry those were old posters and the recruiter forgot to take them down. Sorry you were misled."

Good post, good post. Would read again :)

    Just one thing, though:

Love doesn't have a ###### thing to do with this, and never has.

    It's not love, it's long-term lust/infatuation.

These are not the same things.

Let's just be real honest. People think trucking is a senseless job. A monkey can do it. Hey look they say I can get 50,000 dollars. But then you come in and smell the pee. OH wow in 3 or 6 short weeks of training I'll have my cdl and I'll be able to get all these jobs that are offered in the news paper.

Wake up read between the lines. It's what they are not saying. Like a 70 hour work week with no overtime. For that hard work I'll give you 1 day off. Hmmm So you make 11 an hr. Times 70hrs= Thats 770 dollars a week * 52 weeks= 40,040. You been home 52 day's out of 365. Your kids see Uncle Jr over at the house more then they see you and 2 years later Uncle Jr. is Daddy. LOL

So this is just to show all that glitters is not gold. If it to good to be true. It probably is.

Now I love driving. I love keeping a roof over my ex-wife and currents wife's head. You get use to it. Like you get use to the 4 wheeler cutting you off so they can take the exit. The guys who are telling you big numbers ask them how many times they illegally logged. Or how many surgeries have they had on there knee's going up and down the ramps with the 2 wheel dolly full of meat, beer, coke, etc. Or how many weeks at there Ltl job they sent waiting by the phone only to not be called in because they didn't have any freight for the extra board newbie.

You come in with high expectations you will be humbled my friend. So come in knowing that you will be stepping in dung, and not yellow roses and you just might get those loto opportunities some have spoke of.

If there is a God, then recruiters certainly are no creatures of His.

Oh, I'm sure that they are dutiful, faithful servants of...a certain Entity...but the One up-stairs almost certainly ain't it.

I would love to of made $10.88hr some weeks and some months.

Trucking is not easy, Handling a big rig and labor comes with it is the easy part. It's the headache of Politics at the company, Dealing with Shippers/ Receivers, DOT, Family, Traffic and Your own sanity.

    First year always sucks.

So basically, everyone is saying "Welcome to the family!" LMAO!! I REALLY appreciate everyone's comments. Even what little negativity that has been posted. I appreciate it ALL.

I am not going into this lightly, nor am I thinking that this is a golden opportunity where the skies will always be blue, and the birds will be singing. If it was easy, and there was tons and tons of money to be made, then everyone would be trucking.

I understand that this will be a tough job. I understand that there will be lonely nights, some scary situations, and LONG HOURS.

I feel pretty confident that I can deal with these situations, and I am fairly confident that my family will be able to make the adjustments as well... I guess we will see.

So yup, I am signing up for class this coming week, and if all goes as planned, I will graduate and have my CDL on Dec, 7th. Hopefully I can get a job lined up and by the 1st of the year I will be in a truck and starting my new career.

I will keep you all up to date, and I hope to meet some of you folks sometime.

In the meantime.. keep the comments coming. I love the advice, the stories.. all of it. Positive or negative I want to get both sides.

Thanks again everyone for your time!
