I currently have a Class B CDL in MN with school bus/passenger endorsements. I'm attending a CDL school for the Class A at a cost of about $2,500. I'm thinking that's an education deduction. Here's my reasoning:

You cannot deduct education to change careers but usually you can deduct the education cost if it improves your current job skills. Since I'm already a driver wanting to move from (part time) school bus to OTR I think it should be a deductable expense.

    Any experience with this?

I would like to know if I can deduct the cost of the DMV CDL permit also the TWIC card and hazmat fees, seeing as it is all work related.

To the original poster it is form 8863. After all the math it ends up being like a $500 credit.

gb those expenses fall under itemized deductions under job expenses (schedule A). You have to fill out and attach form 2106.

    gb2nyc Thanks this.
