Good luck on your schooling and thanks for reading and commenting. To answer your question we've mostly stopped at flying js and pilots when I first started driving and about 2-3 times when we really started team driving. All the other stay overs for us were at swift terminals. In certain places they are really nice. The bathrooms/showers are maintained pretty well. There is a shower, toilet and sink/mirror in a coded locked room that you get a receipt with which shower you're to use. So it's pretty private and personal. As nice as they are though never forget to wear your sandals for safety. The food is basically like you would at home some truck stops have either subways, taco bells, macdonalds, arbys and burger king located in or around them for easy access. They also have pizzas hot dogs, nachos, burgers precooked. I wouldn't advise eating too too much because the majority of the things are greasy.
Sometimes you can't help it but from a health standpoint stop at a Walmart or another chain store and stock up on food goods. Also about showers when you fuel the truck at pilots or flying js, which they did some kind of merge so they are one in the same the majority of places. You get free showers that expire after 5-7 days. As team driving, you'll only be able to use 2-3 per week depending on how much you run. As a solo company driving every other day maybe everyday again depending on how you run. It's a really good deal they have with the fueling and showers thing. If you somehow don't have free showers I think it's 10 dollars per 1 shower. Staying overnight at truck stop is pretty routine, even though I say that, you definitely want to make sure it's safe, especially at night. Make sure you lock the doors aware of your surroundings( trucks sometimes fly through) and also make sure you watch out for people up to no good. When I went to truck stops mostly everyone stayed to themselves, I did run into a guy trying to sell me some chains( gold he said, but if they were real he wouldn't be selling them at a truckstop. Oh, never let anyone step on your steps to your door, this guy did it to me and it's really uncomfortable, it was day time but he kept reaching into his pockets and it's definitely not safe. I'll never let another person do that. Hope I haven't scared or made you worry because it really is great out on the road. Be careful, drive extremely safe and never rush and you should do fine. Good luck and again thanks!
New soon to be swift trainee!

Last night I saw something that I never thought I would see in my life. I saw a SWIFT truck go flying past me.
Swift has a large presence in the Kansas City area. I saw what looked to be a brand new truck and trailer. Beautiful blue thing. Had some kind of special markings on the side like it belonged to a hotshot driver in the company. One of the Million mile safety guys or something. Trailer had all the bells and whistles on it. Those skirts and everything. Beautiful. But it was the speed the thing went by me that really got me going. I had to catch up. My truck will do 80 but it takes some time to get it up that fast. I did and I finally caught up with it.
I don't know who the tow truck driver was who was pulling it but man he can drive.KMac, Gearjammin' Penguin, CAXPT and 2 others Thank this. -
Ha HA that was funny @Wooly good one.
Update: because of some logistics Ill have to wait until Im placed on the account. Meanwhile I am doing OTR. Just uploaded my new truck its a kenworth 2010 and has a cummins engine. It used to be for a mentor so it goes 65mph. So far I like it. Already turned in one load currently I am on my second load as solo thats due at 20:30 tonight which is cool I have 154 miles left on the load then Ill move on to another one of course. I backed into 2 truck stops late each night and because I took that class in Colorado my backing is pretty decent. Backed up 4 times all together since going solo and I havent backed into anything!! Im hoping to continue that trend. Got to go get in a quick nap before I head out Later be safe! -
The best way to avoid a backing collision is to avoid backing
CraZyMotherTrucker, Newtrucker48 and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
Mini update finished my first week haven't hit anything got over 2500 miles, great dispatch leader, great home terminal, and was just placed on regional for more predictable route while I'm learning the ropes more. About to go on home time, getting a load through home so that I can start regional routes I'm excited! More later

Good for you..keep on trucking
Newtrucker48 Thanks this. -
Just an fyi... pretty much all the truckstops will give you a shower credit with a 50gal purchase, make sure you get a card from each...
Currently I have Pilot/Flying J; TA/Petro; Loves; Sapp Bros.; AMBest; Wilco/Hess
There may be others that someone else can fill you in on, but those are the ones I use. If you run enough you are getting fuel daily so you can shower most anywhere if you plan to stop where you have credits .Newtrucker48 Thanks this. -
I currently need ambest, wilco/Hess and ta/petro. Being a swift company driver, I'm told to follow their fuel route which we frequent loves, pilots and flying js.
The states that I'll travel now is Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana. Been to all so far and beside Texas traffic not to difficult for a newbie like myself.
