Mustav been at one of the larger terminals, 15 D.M.'s over the 5yr. Course of time, gotta be some kinda record, however I signed on 8 weeks ago and will clean out my trk. Mid-week w/only 1 D.M.
from Knight in my past (I'm thinking they been well coached) -
Trap, only 8 weeks in. Why don't you try a different DM before you jump ship? DMs are just like drivers, they range anywhere from good to bad to great to horrendous, ect.......

Trap, if you start to jump ship to soon your going to have problems with finding other jobs. Go talk to the Terminal Manager.

My 1st DM I had for about 1 yr, was a good one who took care of me and I 'took care' of him by running special errands...he was promoted to a term mgr.
But had about 5, 22 YO recent-college grads with no trucking industry experience who generally lasted only 4-6 weeks. Had 1 just make it 2 weeks.
The best 2 DM's I had were former drivers who knew how to take care of their drivers, and then their drivers would 'make them look good' at their jobs!
And it was at the Phx term which had a big turn-over rate among DM's; as well as being an Express driver, many times we as a group were shuffled around as add-ons to DM's with full driver loadings....the proverbial 'ugly step-children'.....Last edited: Oct 8, 2012

I had 4 in the last year out of the Phx. Term. One of them for about two weeks. Now when I call to get loads I just talk to whomever answers the phone mine or not. The only time I talk to who I'm assigned to is when I have a time off request or payroll issues.

Often I got no responses on my Qcom and had to use the cell to get attention--esp if needed immediate direction.
If everything is running as it shud, the cell shud not be the 1st choice of communication.
But the cell does give a more personal form of communication as voice inflections can influence the ' importunity' of the situation.
EDIT: They had just started the 'DM Teams' B4 I left, and so could call a number and get someone ASAP if your DM was out of his Ofc. Was a good idea..is it still being used?Last edited: Oct 8, 2012

BTW, tiredaz, did your local job disappoint? Saw many OTR drivers take jobs in Tucson with CTL driving cement trucks (both straight mixers as well as tractor/trailer belly dumps). Were driving locally, but was a burn-out job for the ones I last talked to...and of course, lower paying.

Very disappointing. For the 6 weeks I was there it was 14/10 and a 34 at the end of your 70. Burn out came very fast. I had no time at home awake anyways to do anything. At least here I can take two full days off every week plus I pass back by most times during the week as well.

Might want to look into Biagi Bros. in Phx & CA. You've seen them at Budweiser in Van Nuys and other beverage distributors with the Green logo. They carry heavy beverage loads (beer/wine/MT cans also), but have met several experienced, long-term drivers with them who were fairly content/happy..!
I've seen them advertise for drivers every so often in Phx as their business has been growing---they orig started out in Napa Valley pulling wine loads and grew from there..tirednaz Thanks this.
