This is simply BS your trainer was feeding you. The records do not simply go away.

You can not have a current paper log and elogs at the same time unless like someone said you have for training only or whatever.. If you get caught you will get shut down and fined for running 2 logs. Yes the cop would be showing his butt.. BUT he would be following the letter of the law.... We had a seminar with the Texas Department of Public Safety and they are within the law to shut you down for it.

Yeah they kind of do.. After 6 months I know peoplenet drops them.. Every 6 months we have to print out a summary of it so we can have it for tax purposes.

I concur, your company could change its settings to allow the records to be kept for 1 year, but why on earth would they?

I'm thinking if you really needed your logs your could contact QC or PN and give them your information, what company your worked for, driver code, name, and time period you were looking for and they might be able to get the information for you.

Thanks for all the info guys, I appreciate it. I think i'll just stick with what the company uses until I learn the ropes, then figure out how everyone else handles it.

To follow up, I've been on the road for almost six months, and my Qualcomm has quit on me many times, mostly due to a bad unit. I've made paper logs a couple times, but I've never had an issue about logs with an LEO. In short, I've learned that you guys are right; don't waste the time worrying about it.
