We use the small gas grill too. we dont use charcoal cause it takes too long to cool off sometimes. Anyway we bought ours at Lowes and it has done a great job this past summer. Now with winter coming on we will be doing more crock pot and mircowave cooking AND I am looking at a cooker that bakes, browns, slow cooks, roasts and steams...it is 1200 watts though so we would need a bigger inverter i think. Ours is a 1500W they say... :biggrin_2552:

From my experience, a cooler and a cheap 700 watt microwave is the only way to go. You will need to invest in an AC inverter, the appropriate size power cables and an in line breaker or fuse. My advice is to have it professionally installed. Installing it yourself and not knowing what you're doing could end up in a disater. Many trucks these days have at least one hole in the floor(closet) with a rubber plug for the hot and the cold can be grounded at a seat floor bolt. It will pay itself off in no time at all; financially and from a health perspective. When I have been employed OTR, I never ate at truckstops. I buy steamers in the frozen section and all kinds of good things at Walmart. I don't think I spent more than $80 per week in the last year with that setup.
Try doing that by eating out all the time or with the other alternatives.

I do not care for Denny's , can not stand McDonald's, generally do not care for fast food. I do all my cooking in the truck. Hard to find good diners now that are truck accessible. I ordered my truck with a 5000 watt factory installed inverter. George Forman grill gets a lot of work, as does my slow cooker. For some things I picked up a propane gas stove with side grill fits right in my cubby storage uses the little green propane tanks. Doubles as emergency heat if something happens and you are stuck for a while. Popcorn maker gets a workout as well, again doubles for a heater when it is cool out.

Frozen pancakes from wal-mart. Good for a week in the Coleman cooler, easy to heat up, and a very good part of a filling breakfast!

I have an inverter and a microwave. the cost was $200 all together. I keep canned food with me, its cheap, there are a wide variety of flavors available, and it doesn't need to be kept cool.

Is it illegal to mount a gas grill on the side of the truck? I have a perfect spot behind the sleeper to mount my Weber grill, just not sure about the laws.
