Yep it's true...alot of people find out they got a couple bad batteries with the first cold snap.
-
On is 2010 one is 2009 and two of them are not even a month old
-
What can i do to prevent this from happening?
-
Replace batteries in sets rather than individually so that they all will require the same charge rate from the alternator. When you mix new batteries with older ones the new batteries can get destroyed (cooked) by the higher charge rate that the older batteries demand from the alternator. New batteries recover much faster than older batteries even when the older batteries will pass a load test.

battery with one bad cell drains other
-
a new battery can only be as good as the worse battery on the truck
it is possible to isolate each battery so not to drain the good batteries
but i have only seen it on boatstxnewbee Thanks this. -
Like Pablo said a battery with a bad cell will drain the others down.
This is one way to find a bad cell.
1. Buy a cheap DVM (digital volt meter).
2. When stopped for the night measure and record the voltage across the batteries.
3. Disconnect each battery at the positive + terminal of each battery.
4. measure and record the voltage across each battery.
5. after a few hours, or in the morning, measure and record the voltage across each battery.
The battery with the lowest voltage will be the one with the bad cell.txnewbee Thanks this. -
How about this, replace the 2010 and the 2009 with new ones and be on your merry way!!
Heavyd Thanks this.
