I know the 435 Cummins aren't any good. They've been known to use water. But the bigger ISX Cummins motors are fantastic.

All depends on how you drive. But I'd say 6-8.

All of the engines you mentioned between 04 and 07 are essentially the same with different power ratings. The 08 has different EPA regulations to comply to with more EPA mandated pollution control equipment like a DPF. Many people say to avoid post 07s. If you go to the garage area of the forum and search the threads you'll find a lot of information you can use.

look for the years that don't eat cams.

i heard thats a problem 08 and newer.

03 and older would be the best. no egr and variable turbo.

after 1 million miles. they all kinda go to crap. i have personal experience with one right now.

i'd take a detroit 60 over the isx. they also get better fuel

I have a 04 isx started out at a 435 had new program put in it for 500hp and 1650ftit lbs. First thing you should do if getting an isx with egr is just unplug egr valve it will run alot better and help fuel milage, next thing that helps is where the intake chokes down theres a piece inside that chokes it down more remove it and weld a plate over it and bolt it back up it will spool alot faster makes a huge dif. All of which is stuff my mechanic told me to do been running the truck that way for a year now.with no probs i gained around 1in mpg out of it
If at all possible stay away from any of the emission motors butfrom what ive heard isx is the better ones to go with. Ive always had detroits and updated to an isx the best thing i can say about it is the jakes are alot strongeron the isx i only use mine on stage 2 no matter how heavy i am all 3the does is make more noise, but id def take a ddec4 detroit over isx any day they are alot easier to get hp outta and still keep your mpg.

Good luck finding a decent ride
