.... a separate LEASE operator forum.
Speaking for myself...and only myself.
I do NOT view a Lease Op the same as an Owner Op. Sorry guys and gals. I put them in the same category as OWNING a house, and renting one.
But much of the advice sought and given, does not apply across the two. Although they have similar issues and ideas.
But the responses could better, if the actual status of said driver is known. Taxes, rates, insurance, child support, debt...the list goes on and on.
The new driver considering a lease, sees the numbers stated by true owner ops (within that forum) and runs with it. Thinking theirs will be the same.
Stepping down off soap box..........
How many Lease ops have I pissed off today? With this comment?
We desperately need a separate lease operator forum

Moved to the O/O forum to get their opinions. What do you guys think?

If you start to separate, where do you end?
owner operators are technically those who operate under their own authority
or an owner operator can own his truck and LEASE on to another company
or you can LEASE a truck from a dealership and LEASE onto a company
or you can LEASE onto the company you are driving for (england, prime, etc)
or you can LEASE/PURCHASE from these same companies
so maybe you need four categoriescrb Thanks this. -
My intent, is to speak of "purchase vs lease".
Most these folks have more than 2 brain cells.
Even an Owner Op may "lease" a truck short term, while his/hers is in the shop. But split hairs if you want.bullhaulerswife Thanks this. -
Now if we go and provide too much education to these newbies how will these big companies keep the seats of those shiny lease trucks filed?
-
An operator is a carrier. Wouldn't you mean "lease purchase driver"?
"Operator" sounds more highfalutin' than "driver" so guys use it to inflate their ego I guess. -
I do think it should be separated. That being said, the point of where do you stop with sub-forums is valid also. However, this forum is a wealth of information and no matter what the collective "we" think of leasing, it is here to stay.
I think if a sub-category was created it would provide a concentrated location for all things lease related. I think it would also lend itself to more friendly responses. This would be due to the fact lease info would not be junking up the other forums. If you find yourself in a lease thread, it was by your choice.HDFatboy, bullhaulerswife, TRKRSHONEY and 1 other person Thank this. -
Owner Operator = The full meal deal, owns and runs every aspect of the business.
Independent Contractor = Owns truck perhaps a trailer as well and contracts to a motor carrier. This could also cover someone who leases from a leasing company and not the carrier they haul for.
Lease Op = Leases from the carrier they haul for.
The hard part now is getting truckers to agree to these definitions or any set of definitions on the subject. I bet that takes a while, if it can be done at all!!MackDaddyMark, Lilbit, scottied67 and 2 others Thank this. -
Seriously, not sure a separate section would be best just maybe moving threads about this started in company section into the O/O sections. Would thing that someone looking at this or in this would get better play and more relevant advice.
MNdriver Thanks this. -
