You can make it, it will just take a while to get it going. I have had my authority for about ten years and it took about 5 to really figure out things. Just remember, pay the drivers a little extra rather than squeezing every penny out of them, there are not too many folks out there that aren't greedy. O/O loyalty is important, they can make you or break you, trust me.

 

One of the best investments ( considered dollar remains strong) I made was lendingclub.com. Consistent, close to 9% ROI. The only downside I see with it not a great liquidity- 3 or 6 year long, though the interest and part of the invested money does come back to the linked account as soon as the next month. Maintenence free, invest and forget, minimal fee, love it.

 

I really don't see how anyone can create a successful company without any firsthand knowledge and experience in the industry. Reading a bunch of info is a far cry from actually have experience working in trucking....unless you just have a few million dollars to burn to cushion the consequences of all the mistakes you'll for sure encounter.

 

Don't take this as condescending...but unless you are a millionaire and can stand to loose most of it the 1st 6 months to a year don't start!

 

Yes,you can use factoring services ,at the beginning at least and yes, 75 K ,if you have it ,is plenty for a reefer, paperwork and other start up costs. I know some folks who do it from home, you will need at least 1 knowledgeable person to handle dispatch , accounting and legal paperwork and a local truck shop to do routine maintenance. Just do your homework , ask for references and you will be good to go,it is not a brain surgery. The secret is to find all these right people the first time and not to be afraid to fire anybody if they make you lose money or not make enough.
