Alright guys.. here's a new one... (well not really but new for me)
So recently the company I work for has been having trouble finding loads for some reason or another, (we're a small 9 truck outfit, 5 months ago we were a 14 truck outfit) and life has been getting worse and worse.
Now, one of my good friends has been working with us for about 3 months now, and had received a ticket in a CMV while working with another company for going 25 over. He had gotten a lawyer who claimed to have taken care of it and not to worry about it. Well low and behold, he hadn't, my friend received a letter in the mail on Friday stating that his license had been suspended. Now, here comes the dumbest part about it.. It is now Saturday, my friend was scheduled to take a load from the yard down to augusta GA to deliver on Monday morning. He went into the office and informed our boss of the suspension. Apparently my boss waivered a bit and decided to let him take the load anyway, banking on the possibility of them believing that he hadn't gotten the letter and had no knowledge of the suspension.
This to me is a HUGE red flag, because if he gets stopped at a scale house, by a DOT officer, or gets into even the slightest accident, that will be the end of the company i work for..
I'm fighting the urge to call DOT and report this due to the fact that this is my friend.. (though he is royally stupid for going anyways) and because it could be my job for reporting it (not fired for blowing the whistle, but for the company no longer having authority to run or funds to run after paying the fines that would be imposed or both)
What do you folks think I should do.. and yes, the obvious "Find a new job" is already being worked on.
The dumbest thing my boss could do?

As far as I can see, there's only one thing you can do and that's find a new job. Obviously, you are already working on that. Other than that, I can't see what else you can do.
You're stuck between a rock and a hard place, no doubt about it. If (or when) this company closes the doors, you are out a job, a source of income, and a means to support yourself and your family. If you report the situation, you speed the process and possibly place yourself in dire straits before you have the safety net of another job to catch you. And given how difficult it can be for an experienced driver to find a decent job today, its not like you can expect to find yourself a brand new job with equivalent pay by the end of next week. There are far to many rookies being churned out by the CDL mills and taking jobs that should be going to more experienced drivers. Unfortunately, far too many companies are hiring less experienced drivers and pocketing the payroll savings, leaving experienced drivers out in the cold. Sucks to be us.
Yes, its true that your friend shouldn't have taken that load, or continued to drive knowing his license was suspended. But what if he's in the same situation? Needing that run to pay the bills, feed the kids, fix the car, etc., etc.? Or your boss, needing that load run to keep the contract, pay the drivers, pay insurance?
Many of us have never had to worry about what we are going to eat one day to the next, had to decide between paying the electric bill or fixing the car, buying fuel or paying the health insurance. Some of us cannot even concieve of being placed in such a position even now. Some will say that finding yourself in such an economic position is purely your own fault for not saving, not handling your money better, not working harder. They say this because they have not yet (and hopefully never will) been in a position of watching their job go to someone younger, less experienced, and lower paid. They have not ever been in the position of having used their savings to maintain basic needs (power, heat, food, health) while their pay remains the same and their expenses increase. It is not always the fault of the individual that their economic situation has not kept up with the cost of living in their area. Nor is it always economically feasible for people to move into a more advantageous area. Its pretty hard to afford a place to live when there's only $4.00 in your savings account, and you're only earning around $300/week after taxes.
Just something to bear in mind. -
what makes us look bad is pee jugs thrown everywhere, drivers hitting everything around them, running into each other on road and cars to ,no courtesy to each other or cars, and have you looked around lately drivers so big they cant hardly walk or breathe.yeah turn him in you fool,i cant believe the stupid crap i read on here, yes things are better i feel so much safer on the hwy, with the likes of you people

Really! Instead of helping each other out the new rule is rat everyone out....Geeze!
Man things have changed!
If that driver gets pulled HE is in trouble, the boss could claim he knew nothing about it.
And it is the drivers fault that he did not follow up with that lawyer on the 25 over ticket.
Any decent lawyer should have mailed him proof of how the Court case turned out. -
My 2 cents.... tender your op to your friend and stop there....MYOB.. it will backfire if you don't. Ratchet up ur search efforts and get out if you think the ship is sinking....which it sounds like it is.......
