ouch...a flatbedders worst nightmare. Feeling a shift, looking in the mirrors and having a major bowel movement. I wonder how a strap breaking could have caused this. If straps were used then each tube should have had several on it. With the chocks on the sides they should not have moved with one strap breaking.

having pulled flat bed...IMO there is no such thing as "too much" securement.....

i wont even get on my soap box this early...(bones are too stiff to climb up).....but i get sooo tired of seeing not enough securement..OR FLAPPING straps or chains.....STOP BEING LAZY or GO PULL DRY VAN would ya?? and stop endangering the rest of us!!!!!!

(if this post applies to you , then pay attention ..LOL)

ppl used to laugh when we secured our loads..and say..."you dont need the many" (straps of chains whatever the load called for)....we always told them....if we have them, we are gonna use them...OUR LOADS DIDNT MOVE...IF you have an accident..and you lose your load...one of the things they are gonna look at..(as seen from this article)...HOW MUCH load securement did you have???? really WHAT IS THE EXCUSE?????? i will tell you...LAZINESS!!!!! plain and simple....i have no tolerance for it......as a flatbedder....it is PART OF YOUR JOB to secure that load properly from movement and protect the public....

20k load, each strap is 10k of securement. Guess he figured one strap on each was "good enough"

I was looking at the photo and video of the caissons drill heads, they had three shadows from straps on it. Now if it was cribbed like they are supposed to be hauled then three straps would have held each one ok but you would have to constantly check for proper tension, not knowing anything besides what the story gives I say they were not cribbed.

A 4" strap is only 5400 pounds WLL, not 10,000 pounds.
