    Hi there,

Our truck has started to have severe voltage issues. It runs at 14V and then straight up to 16V. Once its at 16V it will not go back down. We've restarted it tried cleaning all grounds(suggestion from Freightliner), even sprayed Alt with WD40(hey in -10 deg its a shot at heat:p).

Everything turns off at 16V, lights heat radio etc all internal functions.. Its started a new symptom about 30 min ago.. restarting the computer(all warning lights come on etc) while truck is running.. It also has created an intermittent fuel problem where it doesnt seem to be getting fuel and yesterday it turned itself off while in gear.. luckily we were only going 20kmh at the time..

The computer reboots itself while truck is running every few sec.

It ran ok for a while shut it down and once started its right back to 16V.

Oh the wipers turn themselves on for about 30sec to 1 min after turning on the truck after its been shut down for a period of time.. dont know if thats anything to do with it, but its not the fuses(replaced them all)..

Replaced alt a month and half ago with a rebuild, but could this be a dying computer or a bad rebuilt alternator with a bad regulator.

    any ideas would be great.

We need HEAT! :biggrin_255:(if only for a moment)

    thanks

Power Control module maybe? Be very very careful. Put a voltmeter on by hand and see what it reads. I've heard of trucks power control module getting wet through a leaky windshield and causing a short and catching fire. A driver I talked to was driving on the road when every light in the truck came on "Brighter than halogen," flames started shooting from the dash. If you replaced the alternator, I would look very close and find out what the issue is.

I had a high voltage problem a while back, mine would read 15v + and it was from a wire in the battery box... It was rubbing against the battery box cover (till wire was bare)going down the road and causing an intermittent short as the truck bounced ...With the box cover off it was very hard to see where the wire was wearing through.... I didnt have any of the other symptoms you listed but a short seems likely... I cooked 4 new batteries before i found it.. good luck to you
