Dead wrong, any of the CDL upgrades require an actual driving test, Class C, Class B, or Class A.

Furthermore, even if you have a Class A permit, if you arrive with a Class B truck you will only be issued what is, in effect, a Class B license.

The reason anyone can rent even the largest of the Uhaul trucks is because a.) they do not have air-brakes, and b.) The GVWR of the Uhaul trucks do not meet the 26,001lb. Class 6 and higher weight rating requirement. Most of the "large" (24-26ft.) Uhaul moving trucks have a GVW rating sitting right around 23,000lbs. or so, some a little higher.

Next time you're talking with a buddy who does not have a CDL ask to see their license, if they're anything like the ones from my state it will explicity state on the back that you can operate a vehicle up to 26,000lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.

I don't know when i was at my one job out in the oilfield, I always brought along a big cooler full of food and drink, slightly "more" than 1 pound.

 

Theres a weight restriction also any vehicle or combination that is over 26,001lbs requires a class A

 

6 months from now the Class A will be worthless to any perspective Class A jobs. If the guy paid out of HIS pocket for Class A schooling, there is no way he'd take a Class B job. IMO.
