Once again it's time to remind folks that they need to discern the difference between Daytime Running Lights and "Flashing" the lights to let a driver know it's safe to change back into the lane....
I had one driver running up the Primm grade (S/B I-15) pass me up and then cut back in 2' off my nose....
I tried to get his attention on the radio and no answer......
I passed him up halfway up the hill and noticed the guy looked like he hadn't slept in a month.....Ok....So the guy zoned out and figured my running lights "flashed" him.....
Second time today, running down hill to Baker and a driver running over 70 (I was running 62) cut in 2' off my nose....
I got on the radio and this time, I got the obligatory "You drive yours....I'll drive mine!!!!".....
Point is....Pay attention to how far you are from the rig you are about pass and then get in front of.......
As a rule for myself.....I don't get back in until I either see a "cut-out" from the rigs that have DTRL's or a "Flash"....
Thanks for paying attention.......In advance....

I agree 100%. My truck has DRL and people constantly come over wayyy to close for my tastes. I don't have a 'cut out' switch in my truck, though, not that works like I would like it to, anyhow.
Working Class Patriot Thanks this. -
Only time I'll ever come over closer than 50 feet in front of someone is if I see a signaling and/or if it's an emergency that won't put him in danger with me doing so.
Cutting in front with feet to spare is not only rude, it's downright dangerous. After someone does that, all you can see is his trailer and nothing ahead...
When someone does this to me, I don't get heated or on the radio... I just adjust to a good following and keep on. If that's their mentality, no point in arguing with a fool that careless. -
While I always appreciate a driver giving me a signal (hit the CB or blink the lights) to let me know I've cleared their nose when passing, I prefer to use my own judgement before I move back over. Just as I don't like having a vehicle too close to the front of my truck, I figure other drivers wouldn't appreciate my truck cutting in too close on them. I want safe following distance between us before I move over. Its safer for me, and safer for the driver behind me.
But lets face it, how often is this an issue these days? -
quebec drivers are bad for cutting in close . they must be taught this because they seem to think its normal

That's the usual monkey hear, monkey say bad driver comment.
In other words he's tired about hearing about his bad driving.
He might as well say "I'm a bad driver and I know it"!
I would hear the same thing.Lonesome, Working Class Patriot and aiwiron Thank this. -
Driving 101.....

I never moved over unless I saw the lights go out and come back on and then only when I had the spacing. There's too many people out there that have no idea what they are doing and sometimes they just might be going from high beam to low and not signaling at all. It really didn't matter to me if the vehicle signealed or not. I would thank them for the courtesy but I knew where the end of my truck was if when I hauled triples.

When I pass a truck, I always have a quick look in the mirror when I'm halfway past, and see if he has DRL or his headlights are on. If they are on then either wait till I see a flash (getting rarer and rarer these days) or wait till I'm waaay by and move over.

I will typically flash a driver over once they have about 40ft in front of me. Any more than that, and the suicide jockies start getting jumpy. Chances are, if I'm getting passed, we're going up a hill, so that gap between us isn't getting any smaller unless their 5th wheel calls it quits.
