Can anyone tell me what type of special "card" (similar to a TWIC) that is needed to deliver a load onto an Indian Reservation? If so how do you get one?

I called about a load today that I found on the Internet truck stop load board (A Landstar load) and the agent asked me if I had a card (I cant remember what he called it) but he said it was similar to a TWIC card only for indian reservations. He said it was the first time he had ever seen it also but what ever it was it was a requirement for this load.

This past 4th of July, I hauled a load of Fireworks to the reservation in Idaho. Never asked for anything.

Its called a Tara card....its a sticker you put on your window. Cost about $1000 for the ones in ND, but there is an oil boom there so they're probably taking advantage of people. You have to get them from the reservation itself. And I don't think its like a twic, because I think its only good for that reservation...but I may be wrong. I didn't have to buy one, my boss did for us to do work on the rigs and not pay a fine.

Btw, if you don't get caught you're fine...I'm thinking drivers have got caught or it wouldn't be the first time that person had seen it. If the pay ain't worth it, I wouldn't haul it...but I'm not an oo, and not sure of your situation or position.

I think there is a difference between working on a reservation and delivering on one. I delivered iron sewer pipe to a reservation in Northern South Dakota a while back. I didn't need any card or window decal....but the unloader was late to the job. The reason he gave was he was "having trouble getting his work credentials in order".

used to deliver all the time to Resverations in S.D., even loaded out of the Casino's a few times when they replace chips, never needed anything other than a CDL.
