Lat person i had asking me for money was a guy claiming to be a driver down in Ruther Glen VA. He claimed he had left his wallet in his car in Scranton an was just trying to get enough cash for the buffet. I told him i had no cash. Well lo an behold 30 mins later he was in the restaurant getting food an when it came time to pay he was counting the change he collected to pay. I went over an picked up his bill.

When people say they're hungry I offer to bring food for them on my way out...

This may be a shock, but no one has took me up on it...

Usually I say "no" to the average panhandler. But if I offer food and they accept it...that sort of tells me "this guy's for real." I'll give consideration if they offer to earn it, too.

Case in point: I was sitting at the Pilot in Baldwin, FL a few years back, and I'd been there for two days. I was flat broke. No cash. I was leasing a truck, and practically begging my FM for a load Guy walks up to my truck and asks if I had a couple of bucks, and I said, "Sorry, I'm broke." He continues: "I just need a couple of bucks to get a sandwich and a drink. I'll shine your wheels for a buck a piece" I said, "Man, I don't have any money, but if you're hungry, I have a couple of chicken and rice meals I can heat up for you and a Gatorade." That dude was so happy, I thought his ears were gonna fall of, he was smiling so big! I gave him the food and the drink, and he was still offering to shine my wheels for the food.

I just told him to "enjoy it and relax a bit... you don't owe me a thing."

Maybe I'm an Asshle. When somebody comes up to me at a Truck stop I usually blow them off completely.
If I am sitting in the Drivers seat and someone comes up to my truck, I just shake my head and Wave bye to them, they usually get mad and leave.

I do the same, and keep a hand on my "little helper" too. These days, you never know what they are carrying and I'm not one for taking stupid chances unless it involves certain young ladies....

I always give panhandlers whatever they want, food, money, etc...Then to really make 'em happy, I always let 'em up in my truck, wrap one of my blankets around 'em, put 'em in bed, and kiss their forhead goodnight. They always enjoy sleeping in my truck.

    Food maybe. Cash, no.

That's exactly why I put that chick through the wringer. If she was legit, she'd have hung in there until the end, had her story been verifiable.

Always put the panhandler to the proof. Honesty is sometimes rewarded, lying is always rejected.

I just hope if the tiides are turned or if you or me has to turn to panhandling, we can be honest or will we just lie to make what we can.

How many of us would turn to becoming theives before begging? How much harder it has to be to beg, than to give.

I don't mean to preach. Everyone should follow their own concious or heart.
Myself, I feel to blessed to not help when I can.

    rjones56 and Logan76 Thank this.
